Are onions safe for my pigs?

I've never fed onions to mine so can not speak from experience but I have read that they are safe but will apparently make the piggys smell?
Like I said - I have only read this, I do not have any personal experience of feeding onions.

They are a little sour for them (sour maybe the wrong word?) but some do like them, my lot don't, but they do like spring onions. - The small salad ones with green stems

Ooh, I never knew they could have them Kelly.. I always thought they couldn't because hamsters can't have them, so guessed it would be the same for piggies.. I guess I guessed wrong
