And came back with 3 free guinea pigs :)) Took in these 3 boys yesterday, they had been living at my local farm stores but no one wanted them and the lady knows i have spoilt little pigs and asked if i could take them on as she was worried they aren't getting enough love and attention.

So here is Frodo, Merry and Pippin :)

Yes they seem too, i already have a trio of three boys who get on fine, never had a problem with male piggies getting along as always let them have space and out of cage time and no problems wish degus were the same :))

That's great news :) I know what you mean about degu's. I have a single boy (Marley) as him and his brother fell out before he came to me. Apparently his brother Bob ended up with a foot missing and Marley only has half a tail mallethead

Male Degus are hard to introduce to new friends, its hit and miss with them. I think a lot of the problem with males is space, i provide two of everything for pairs stops squabbling breaking out. I had a group of 4 boys i had since baby and i still have one left and hes 8 (Dave) and they got on fine but i have taken in pairs who have been beating each other up, one pair a kid had in a hamster cage and they were ripping strips of each other. I provided a bigger cage and within a few days peace was regained. Whereas others i have taken in don't want to know :(

OMG, Degu's in a hamster cage mallethead

I'm not too sure of Marley's background. I would love for him to have a friend but I have heard it is really difficult to bond them with a new friend and I can't risk it not working out plus Marley is nearly 2 years old now :(

He seems happy enough by himself and has soft toys to snuggle up to :)

2 is pretty young, my oldest so far has been 8. Its a risk if it don't work you will be left with two cages and two of everything and it does take time. As need to quarantine then have the cages near one another for a few weeks then scent them up with vanilla sand so when you let them out in a neutral space they smell the same. If he has been beathen up by his brother and its escalated to injury then in my opinion your best keeping him alone as he has had problems with another male, lots of attention and things to do will keep him happy :)

Thanks was kinda fate as my neighbour gave me a huge indoor cage the other day so they now have a lovely new home :) Starting to settle down a bit and loving the evening veggie bowl :D

Sorry I missed this thread!

They are lovely x) Congratulations and well done for taking these little ones in.

That's what I thought :) He seems happy enough being a single degu although I admit it's hard work sometimes keeping him occupied. He's worth it though :)

I've been keeping them for 15 years and mainly dealt with males and in my experience if they have a bad experience thats it with male degus, they are funny things and get territorial easily. Cardboard boxes stuffed with hay are an easy occupying toy, make them work also i scatter oats and dried leaves around so they have to forage again keeps them occupied for hours when they aren't in the wheel :))

Golly they are just gorgeous! x)

Thanks, glad i brought them home with me slowly coming out their shells :) x

Oh they're lovely! I love their names :) Good to hear they're getting on well as a trio - I'd love to adopt another baor to join my two, but everyone I've spoke to have tried to put me off by saying more than two boars won't end well :/ I've hard so many horror stories!

I think if they are from the same litter its not so much an issue. I have two sets of three boars and they get a long fine, and the ones i had previously got on fine. I have large cages though so they get away from one another and not in each others faces and i have no females. Personally if i was you i would get another bonded pair over time they might get along but if they don't they have each other, its a safer option and you don't have the worry of having to introduce another later on :)
