Vet update

no bladder stones present!

but that means whee still have no idea why she's not eating 8...8...8...

off to get her now and take her home........

Onyx is going to spend the whole day at the vets on Monday, they want to see how much she will eat herself, plus monitor her weight, how she eats, see how much pain she is in .......
So poor Velvet will be by herself, i hope she'll cope ok :...

Evidentally Onyx ate a few oxbow pellets by herself whilst at the vets.... i'm very proud of her! I have left her with a separate bowl of pellets which i've weighed, but of course i wont know who is eating them! Whee are looking at how whee can separate her from Velvet for a bit so i can monitor her and make sure she's eating, my hubby will figure out something temporary for me.

Good news on the 'no stones' Glynis.

Is she still crying when she passes water or poo? Really hope they can find out what is wrong with her on monday. Hope she feels a little better this weekend.

Lots of healing vibes and love to you both x x

Hi Glynis, only just picked up this thread. Sending lots of love and healing vibes for Onyx. She's so lucky to have should a wonderful mummy looking after her xxxxx

I'm sure Onyx will do fabulous in the vet being spoiled rotten, and hopefully it will give them an indication of what maybe wrong.

I know how it feels not knowing - I do hope you get a diagnosis and treatment soon.

x

I know how worrying it can be not knowing what's wrong and having a piggy have to stay over at the vets. But it sounds like she'll be well looked after. Try and use Monday to catch up on some much needed rest, you must be exhausted having to take care of Onyx. And maybe give velvet a cuddley toy and plenty of cuddles to stop her missing Onxy too much.
Great news that she has no stones and that she's eaten some pellets, fingers crossed the vets will be able to figure out what's wrong and get her back on track.

Hi there Glynis, as you know I have had to keep my girls separate from each other for a few weeks now and I was becoming increasingly concerned about Maisie's emotional health, so just last week hubby and I installed a see through perspex divider in side the girls cage so they could all see each other, they were sooooo excited when we finally got Maisie into it, and the change in her has been wonderful, she gained 50g last week, so I'm quite confident shes eating well again :)

I just wanted to give you and hubby an idea for a safe way to separate your girls with the minimum amount of upset. I'll try to post some pics for you so you can see it in practice.
The place that sold the perspex also cut it to size for me, so that they fit into the connectors of my grids, then hubby stuck some tape (we call it gaffer tape) over the corners and drilled a hole in each corner so we could cable tie them together for extra strength. I don't know what kind of cage you have, but this will work just as well with out the connectors so it can stand alone in any cage.
Hope this helps! we are still sending healing wheeeeeks and good wishes for you and the girls every day,xx

Glad that there are no stones; but so sorry that she is still not eating on her own. :(

Sending big piggy kisses to Onyx

No more real news today........ it's just the same....... she's still not eating unless i feed her, other than a little bit of hay.
(re the vets saying she ate pellets......... i am still gobsmacked cause she aint eaten any i can see......i caught Velvet eating them tho!)

I am going by a diet i have had recommended (by a very very lovely lady), no greens, but offering grass and today i introduced a tablespoon of grated carrot, which she sniffed at and then just looked at it...i offered her a small piece and then said well if you want it eat it girl! she did x)

i was very excited today i did my usual .......who wants greeeeeeeeeeeen spaghetti, well Velvet literally screamed her lungs out and Onyx bounced (not popcorned) but still bounced out.......she then went back into under the hidey .......GUTTED........so i thought NO so i put some of the grass with her.

She is doing really well with her Patrick Juice (aka pearl barley juice) she takes that quite easily. THANKS PATRICK AND JOANNE XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

have you tried dilute unsweetened cranberry juice? when Humphrey had a URI he had that in conjuction with antibiotics

Hi Glynis (And Onyx and Velvet of course!)

I'm assuming that Onyx doesn't have a firm diagnosis yet (I may have missed it!)

Have you tried cystaid/cystease or an equivilent? I tried this with Cameo, as she had (what we suspect) was intersitial cystitis after her op and it worked really well.

I'm not sure if you can get it over there, but if you can't, you could try and get it shipped from a UK site. It's a supplement, rather than a "medication", so it doesn't require a prescription and can be bought online.

We don't have one as good as the cystease i've previously looked into it when Velvet had a UTI....... i spoke to our local post office and asked about the legalities of getting some sent over and i was informed that it was still on the NO goods for entry into OZ mallethead now this was awhile ago so i'll re ask, thanks XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Firstly thanks to everyone, for your incredible support and so many brilliant suggestions :)
One particular lady has really put herself out and i can never thank her enough xoxoxoxoxoxo

After another sleepless night, i decided on sunday to see just what Onyx could eat by herself, but with a little help.
I took her off the Critical Care.......... only so she would have to eat as her tummy wouldn't be full.
She has surprised me and ate some more grated carrot, which then prompted her to want hay. She has eaten ok yesterday and held her weight ~ ~ to around the 1050 to 1065.
Last night when i went to put them to bed after playtime i have always said UP UP and she's stood up and wanted to be lifted out of the box.........she did IT! first time in just over 3 weeks!
This morning she was 1050 and wanted some food. I fed a tiny bit of CC overnight as i didn't want to go outside and get any grass.
I was preparing her cage to take to the vets when i thought i'd yell out greeeeeen spaghetti, Velvet as per usual shreiked wheeeeeeek at the top of her lungs, but Onyx didn't say a word SIGH..... However when i came inside with it, she came out and then stuffed her gob with at least 4-5 blades of grass at a time!
I called the vets and have postponed her full day visit at this stage.
She isn't squeaking anymore either.

Cross paws that she has turned the corner.......

Every morning checking in with the Onyx Saga is essential, my heart is always in my mouth when I look - big relief to hear that you are slowly winning!

Suzy x
