Aww sorry to hear this!

I don't think it will affect her that much (as you're probably aware with Velvet), their eyesight isn't that great anyway, so they'll manage just fine!

Thanks Amanda, it was just such a shock......she's been Velvet's seeingeye pig........... so i'll have to be very careful now to make sure i also do all the things for Onyx too :(

Thanks love, will have to contact Traci (the girl who gave the girls too me, their two other sisters are still with her....... ) really sounds like a family trait now :(

I was going to ask if they were sisters.

As long as you do things like keeping their home arranged in the same way, they should be fine! You can keep them occupied by providing things that use their other senses.

With you as a piggy mum, they're gonna be fine!

what gets me is that it's taken this long for her to now show signs!
not been a good day, had some rotten ones lately dam it :(

Yup i know what to do now re setting up house the same, luckily she knows the drill, morning house one way, evening another :)
i already tap everything for Velvet and talk to her as i go near her, so it wont be much of a change for me....

it is very very upsetting to see opaque eyes now on both my babies tho, they both had such beautiful deeeep dark eyes before x)

The good thing (if that is the right word) is that it will probably be more upsetting for you than it will be for your lovely girls. I had a completely blind piggy when I was growing up and had no idea until the vet told us - it didn't stop him charging around like a lunatic!

It's ok i know what you mean xx>>>

yes very upsetting for me...... i feel i've failed Onyx now...... first Velvet now Onyx mallethead

Awww i'm sure they will both be fine - they do have you for a mummy after all and who wouldn't be fine with that :)

Awww Glynis - I'm sending hugs your way. You are a wonderful slave to your pigs and have in no way failed them. Keep your chin up honey. x

It's not your fault Glynis, don't worry there eyesight isn't good anyway they rely on there sense of smell, hearing and touch more.

The joys of sick pig's, they are very lucky to have you as there slave.

x

Thanks love xx>>>
Thing is tho Onyx used to look at me, particularly since Velvet lost her sight.....it was if i was looking thru her eyes for them both x)
I love the way they look up at you and focus in on you :)

Glynis - you HAVE NOT FAILED them. It's a blessing they're with you (and have each other) because you will be their eyes instead. I'm sure you'll find they manage pretty well, as others have said it's more upsetting for you than them.

x

absolutely sue, definately have not failed them in any way.
Fuzzy lost his sight all of a sudden at about 18 months, its difficult to tell how much sight he has, he runs about fine and knows exactly where the fridge is lol
But if i put veg in the bowl he still stays 'looking' at me as oppsed to running for food so I don't know what he can and cant see so I try not to change their cage too much.
They'll be fine, cos they've got you. :)

Its not your fault, you've NOT failed them at all. They are very lucky piggies indeed to have you. I know they are in the safest best hands possible.

I think you need a good piggy cuddle

big hugs

xx

To repeat what everyone has said, you have not failed them. You are the best piggie mum, they are very lucky and they know you love them lots.
Sending hugs your way xx

Onyx will adjust to her new way of exploring life and you'll adjust with her. It's sad that both girls should loose their sight but they won't be scared, they know they've got you and they'll still have great lives with you. x

Agree 110% with everyone else, your girls just couldn't ask for a better piggy mummy, you are all just incredibly unlucky. Sending big hugs from me and the gang. x

Oh no, Glynis i'm so sorry to hear this but please don't be hard on yourself, there is nothing you could have done to change it, we all know you give your very best to the girls! Onxy will be in the best of hands with all your experience learnt from Velvet. Sending you hugs from across the pond x

I am so sorry to hear that! There is nothing you can do about genes...

I know how you feel - I felt so gutted when Taffy came down with cataracts in both eyes, only to discover a few months later that her daughter Telyn was starting as well. Thankfully, cataracts really don't impact too much on the quality of life! And it doesn't mean at all that you are a bad mummy - with Hafina the latest victim, I'm up to cataract piggy #5! So what does that make me?

Awwwwwww :( I'm so sorry to hear that Onyx is losing her sight too :( big hugs xxxxxxx

Kisses for Onyx and hugs for you. I know Team Glynis will pull together though. Your girls have the most fantastic life with you. xx

Ann Glynis that's sad news, I'm sure they will still look after each other just fine
Take care
Andree

So sorry to hear this Glynis, you haven't failed them in any way please don't think that. You are a fantastic piggie mummy. They are in the best care possible with you. x *hugs*

Thanks guys i was really loosing it last night, i was just gutted for Onyx :(
Along with the cataracts tho i just know she'll end up being diabetic too :(
Looks like i'm just made for looking after sick piggies eh! Oh well our bond will be even stronger now x)
Checked her eye again this morning and it's no worse yet, i'll be keeping dates of course to see when and if the other one goes.
