Hi, We have decided to go ahead with the surgery, we owe it to her as she is fine in herself. Just have to go without Christmas presents this year! We are taking her to Bridges Vets in Cardiff, I hope this is the same one as mentioned on here. The vet seemed to be aware of piggy problems and we felt at ease with her, so fingers crossed x
 
Apple sauce...recovery food and syringe from the vet...thin sliced and halved cucumber. It is scary when they don't want to eat. Pain relief would help too.

Not a good idea to feed a post op pig lots of cabbage, especially if it is a food they aren't usually fed. The last thing you want is bloat!
 
She had Metacam and Baytril injections post op and we have both in liquid form to give her at home, she is so sleepy though, nibbled on some parsley and hay when we offered them to her but is not seeking anything out.
 
General, I have just swapped her over with her sister, put her in the big cage, she is having a wander around now and eating some kale.

Gas, the vet said she could control it better that way. She has eaten some veggies this morning and some pellets, but not much water. We syringe fed her some water last night, think we will do it again this morning. Could she just be recovering from the anaesthetic?
 
Yes she could just be recovering from the anaesthetic. It leaves us feeling groggy afterwards. I had a piggy who wasn't eating after surgery who went on to make a full recovery but she did go back into the vets for a couple of days for special care. Another piggy seemed fine straight after but then went groggy but he was fine after a long cuddle. The ones who have died after surgery either weren't eating well or at all before surgery or had really invasive/difficult surgery.

Excellent news. You must be so please you took the risk and it's paid off. It's a horrible time but when it works out its amazing !
 
Just caught up sorry. so pleased you acted quickly and were able to get her sorted. Sounds like you are doing a great job!
 
Just catching up and very much hoping for the best for Lettie! Please keep us posted. I am rooting for her!
 
Just a quick update on our poorly piggy, Lettie is almost back to her normal self, she is eating, drinking, jumping (which has me cringing because of the stitches!) and everything else piggies do! She has lost a bit of weight when we took her for her check up yesterday, but the vet said just to keep an eye on her. The wound is lovely and clean, and the swelling has gone down a lot.
Thank you so much for all your support and encouragement, I always come on the site for hints and ideas, but have never had to post before, and I was really thankful for all the support!

Well, we thought that all was going well but Letties op scar has become infected she went back to the vet today, he gave her an antibiotic injection and we have to bathe it twice a day with Hibiscrub. Really sad now as I thought everything was going to be OK.

Don't worry, l am sure she will heal soon.
 
Has she for antibiotics to take at home?a one off won't be enough sadly.

My sow had an infection in her wound post spay but it healed fine with a week of antibiotics x

She had antibiotics after the op, and was fine for a week, the vet gave her an injection yesterday and we have to take her back tomorrow.
