well my mum and i were thinking about cleaning out a shed which is a nice size and quite strongly built. to make a shelter/boarding which will allow at first a max of 10-20 guinea pigs to either be surrended in or here for a holiday when the owners are away. we were thinking of building in hutches and runs also put storage in there also. i will also be making a webpage that shows what we are doing and how it would help out my local areas. as i live in Port Pirie South Autralia i was thinking of allowing my help to the following area Port Augusta, Port Broughton, Kadina, Adelaide, Crystal Brooke etc only places within 3hrs travel as its only a starter. i was just wondering if i would charge people for a guinea pig to stay for each day $2.50 however with long stays make like a package deal. also i was thinking of tryin to get like donation from the RSPCA or others within my community and was wondering what should i consider before opeing a shelter (note would **** start making and building in christmas if it seems possible) like i would like to see shelter homes, jobs you do, genernal stuff to know, what you charge for certian things and also how you got into running a shelter just like tips, photos and just general support for ive also said to ppl i know ill take over if they need but well as people i know they look after them so i would like to reach out to people who dont to help as many piggies as i can

Why don't you put in an email to ACS....they have rescues / centres in QLD, NSW and VIC.
Cause of the heat in SA you'd have to have the shed with lots of ventilation/fans for summer and lined for the winter/summer (keep in warmth / repel the warmth)
Or you could speak to the RSPCA for advice.
Not sure in OZ about legalities, e.g. how many piggies you can have on the property etc.. i think you'd have to register too.

Just trying to think of some of the things you'd have to do..... i'm sure our other rescue people will give you advice tho :)

yeah it may take awhile but i do hope to open one next year :) and ill be speaking to the city council soon and ill try to contact animal groups once ive got all the back ground info from * guys and a lady i email who runs the shelter in nsw heh

cool i need tons of information so i am aware of what i am trying to achieve

thanks guy someone from australia has told me all this stuff and more very sad :( she is my age 18 and has over 200pigs at a time however as my state is not high with guinea pigs needing home she said i would only be having a high of maybe 50 so thats good to know ppl in my state either cares about their pigs or ppl *** own them.
i told her that i was going to wait till christmas to make a decison for i need to know all the facts and to be aware of all the horrible things first for what if i cannot handle the sadness or the cost what good would that be? good thing ill have my mother to help but its the same with her we are very family orintated which includes our pets :(

if by christmas i decided it is best not to than ill still be thinking of boarding piggies only or even helping another resuce in the other states to either donate or foster :)

It's good that you're thinking thru things thorougly love!
As for the sad and emotional times, i don't think you'd EVER get over that, i'm sure all our wonderful rescuers would say that each time they loose one to ill health or gross neglect it would tear them apart too..... but maybe make them more determined?

p.s. i think another thing is to be able to listen to advice and also be willing to ask for advice at all times :)
