Hello. I am new to this forum as i am looking for some advice please.
I have two guinea pigs (sisters jessie and pepe) who are nearly 4 years old. A few days ago I found a hard lump on jessie's back. I have been to the vets today and they have taken a biopsy whilst lancing it. The vet stated it was a large sebacious cyst but will still send the sample for testing.
He went on to tell me that jessie needs an operation under anaesthetic to remove the leftover 'capsule'. He said it has to be done or it will just keep refilling. i have been told it will be approximately £200. I paid £92 for todays visit (consultation, biopsy and lancing). My question is....do i leave it and gently squeeze the capsule daily or do I put my little fur baby under the knife? Any advice welcome please. Thank you.

It depends on how confident you feel with your vet.

I have just had a burst and infected sebaceous cyst removed from my 6 year old Tesni's bum end in May. She has recovered perfectly well and is still going strong.

I had the cyst removed from my pig eventually but he did live with it for a few years before we removed it.

It seemed to go away for ages and then reappear. The vet would clean it then it was gone again for months.

As long as it's not infected you may be able to leave it for a while, so you can save us for the operation.
