Hi, I'm hoping one of you lovely people can give me some advice.
I have two Boars - Vinnie & Marlon. They're both 2 years old, and it took a long time to bond them. Thing is, Vinnie has had surgery today to remove a bladder stone.
The operation went well, but when I've put him back into the cage after bringing him back from the vets, Marlon won't leave him alone - he's been constantly mounting him, and I'm worried that he'll hurt him.
I've just moved Vinnie into another cage and he seems happy - munching on hay & drinking, but Marlon isn't very happy - hs running all round the main cage looking for Vin.
I'm really not sure if it would be better for me to leave Vinnie i the separate cage overnight, or put him back in with Marlon and hope things calm down.
Can anyone give me some advice please?
Thanks

Hi :wel: to the forum.
Personally I don’t have any experience in that matter, so I’m not able to offer advice but I’m bumping your post and hopefully one of the experts will be along soon to help.
I hope Vinnie recovers soon :)

If you could let them be separated but still next door to one another, that might work. I wish I had more experience, I've had pigs have surgery before but never an abdominal wound that might be really tender. I did worry when Linney had a mass removed from her back that her sister might pull on the wound or the stitching, but she never actually did.

When Christian had his op 3 weeks ago the vet advised to keep him separate in the hospital cage until he was eating properly for himself so I could monitor what he ate and poop output.

Aww, thank you all so much for your wishes and advice.
I tried putting Vinnie in the hopital cage, and put it right next to Marlon so they could see each other. They were both going crazy chewing at the bars to be together (Marlonn is quite a needy little piggie - he really seems to miss Vinnie, so in the end I caved in and put Vin back into the main cage.
There was a lot of 'activity' for about 40 minutes, then it calmed down.
This morning Vinnie seems really well....I could tell by the puppy pads under their fleece that he's been weeing a lot, and there were far more poos around than in the last few days. He's eating & drinking well and the best bit is I haven't hard him cry once, so it seems he's no longer in any pain.
Fingers crossed that all will be well now.
