I need to find somewhere for my trio over August as I will be away from the 4th-12th August. I've found Crumpets which looks good on the website, I have emailed to see if I can go and visit.

Please could you have a look at the website and let me know what you think, also I know the basics of what I should ask when I visit but can you give me some ideas on anything extra to look out for - thank you in advance!

My babies have never boarded and I want only the best for them, the comments section does look very positive....

It looks 5* drool
Definitely go and check it out as Sir Finley, Mabel and Dottie deserve the best x)
I've had a good mooch at the site and fallen in love with Mr. Rabbit so if you choose Crumpets, can you pignap him for me please :(|) ;)

:)) it does look very good doesn't it, I almost thought it was too good to be true! Lets hope it's as nice in real life!

Ooooo wish I lived nearer, I would love to have had Sir Finley & his wives for a week drool
I would check with them what vets they use etc so you have peace of mind & have a lovely holiday :)

Oooooh I wish you lived closer too! :)) I would be more than happy for you to look after my babies! Thanks, I was thinking of asking about the vets, need to write all my questions down before I visit!

Have a chat with Teejay on here who runs a boarding service, think she has a questionnaire you fill out beforehand - she may be able to assist you with questions you can ask (I'd go armed with a list mallethead) so you won't overlook anything on your visit ?/
It does look plush :)

Thanks Trace, that's a good idea :)

Looks a very nice set up, I would definitely go and have a look. I also run a small animal hotel, here are some of the questions I would ask:

Is the daily rate applicable on the day of arrival and departure?

Is the rate for the hutch per day i.e. 1 pig or 3 pigs the cost remains the same.

Do you need to take your own dry food or is that supplied - make sure the piggies are fed the same as you would normally give them. Do you need to take your own water bottles/bowls? What fresh food is supplied and how often. I make a note on my records of visitors likes and dislikes - I find this particularly important if anyone is taken ill, that way you know what favourites to try to tempt them with.

Does she have insurance. If your pet needs medical treatment does she have a local cavy savvy vet. How are bills paid? I get my clients to sign a consent form which allows me to take their pets to my vet on their behalf, it also states that the owner is responsible for the full reimbursement of the fees.

If one of your piggies is taken ill during it's stay do you want to be informed or would you like the hotel to deal with any health issues? I would want to be informed, but quite a few clients do not want to be told whilst they are away as they feel they can't do anything to help and they know I will do everything possible to get their pet well/keep them comfortable.

With the best will in the world, small furries can sometimes be taken ill suddenly and it is worth thinking about what your wishes would be if the worst should happen.:( It's not an easy conversation to have with owners, but for peace of mind it means I can make an animals final days/passing as comfortable/dignified as possible. My vet will hold the animals for me until the owners return from their holiday (thankfully only something that has happened a handful of times).

Re run time. She says she disinfects the runs, but ask how often they are moved. It's one thing putting your pigs in your own garden but has she got enough grass space so that they won't be on ground recently used by other visitors?

Sorry, I've rather bombarded you with queries! Good luck, I know just how difficult it is to find somewhere you are happy to leave your babies.:)

No no, thank you very much indeed - that's very helpful! Jenny actually recommended your boarding to me just a moment ago...where abouts in Kent are you as my mum lives in Whitstable and may be able to help with transport to you!

I could also ask on her to look after them for me, she's knows them all well but I'd rather explore these options first before asking as it's a lot of responsibility. Thank you! :)

Sorry only just seen this! That's very kind of Jenny (currently got 14 of her rescue boys staying with me on their foster hols!)

We are in West Kent between Maidstone/Tonbridge. Road access is great either A21/M20/M25 or there is even the possibility of a train from town coming in to Paddock Wood which is just 10 mins away from me - can always collect you. Drop me a pm if you would like further info/pics etc.

My set up is not as large as Crumpets, I've got 8 large hutches in the pavilion in my garden and a further 10 in the piggy shed - which is where Jenny's piggies are currently residing.:) I've also got some 120 ferplast and similar indoor cages so can accommodate a few piggies indoors too.

I've tried to stay on the small side so that each animal gets one to one attention each day - they are basically all treated like my own piggies whilst they are herex)

Anyway, drop me a pm if you want a chat.

Sandra

Boarding

Hi,

Thanks for looking at my website www.londonsmallanimalboarding.co.uk in answer to some of your questions.

1. Yes we have insurance.
2. We use trigene which is a veterinary disinfectant and our guests have sole use of the run for the duration of there stay. Our garden is large and can accommodate a large number of runs, so we never have to use run-rotation (this is were a guest spends a short period of time in a run and then another one goes in and so on).
3. Yes we are as good as we look (I know its a big headed statement to make but really we are!).
4. We use a guinea pig savy vet and have the royal college for out of hours work, I am also a fully qualified Veterinary Nurse.
5. We always ask you to fill in a guest details form which has favourite foods, dislikes, fuss spots and a consent form.
6. We can update our clients by email to let them know how their pet is getting on.
7. We like our guests to have fun and always go the extra mile - check our guest reviews.
8. We use your pets normal brand of food supplied by us.
9. Guinea Pigs keep me sane.

I hope this helps but if you ever want to get in touch please don't hesitate to drop us a line.

Ps Mr Rabbit is quite happy with his harem of pigs, but he is very flattered at your interest in him :)

Thank you again x
