So - a litte controversial probably but what are peoples opinions of buying little costumes or accessories for piggies?
I've just tried some cute little scarfs on the boys (only for a picture and I made sure it could in no way hurt them! and they were 100% supervised the entire 5 seconds it was on them)
Am i a horrible piggy mum?
I don't like the idea of having them wear anything on a regular basis this was just a cute little picture idea i will be editing to make our christmas cards this year (I'm a graphic design student therefore this sort of thing excites me no end!)

I know a lot of people think its exploitation of animals to have them dressed up but what if it was only for a moment?
I am aware you can get equally cute pictures without any costumes but I got these scarfs that were meant for dogs in poundland the other day and figured i'd try them on and if they totally hate it then no big deal i know not to try again!
My boys where perfectly calm and where honestly more interested in my camera! Womble tried to have a bit of a nap in it while i was taking phillips off so he can't of been too upset - they went back into the run for some well earned lunch afterwards (after all you have to keep your models happy!)

I just wondered what everyone else thought of it? I know there are companies dedicated to making piggy clothes (a little too far in my opinion especially for the prices!)

I dont even agree with dressing up dogs.
I'm sure that you had no intention of harming your piggies in anyway though :)

I don't like the idea of putting clothes on piggies (one, it would be impossible and stressful for everyone and two, I don't want to hurt them) but I think something like a little hat is cute. If it would stay on, I've never tried it XD

Don't agree with dressing up any animals, the only time I would agree with it is if it was to keep an animal warm, like this dog coats you can get.
,

My own thoughts are anything that is loose, non-restrictive and not 'attached' (tied round/to), and for the briefest of time (photo's the only thing I can think of, really) is acceptable. And it goes without saying that the pig is relaxed and not stressed by it in any way. But then, what would pigs be doing wearing clothes more than that? Can't imagine them sashaying round proudly in little scarves and hats just for the hell of it :))

With other animals, I agree with dog coats (for warmth) as we had a Yorkie who was so low to the ground that his underfur would get all wet and cold on winter walks. But a bomber jacket on a chihuahua? Nah!

I did see a story (can't remember where, maybe GPM?) about a pig who had really bad skin troubles so had to have booties made to stop him scratching. That's obviously not the 'dressing up' we're talking about, but a legitimate medical use.

So, for me, if it's for warmth or medical reasons, fine, if for a photo op, as brief as poss and ONLY if the pig is not stressed in any way, if for (human) vanity, no!

Just a polite reminder - photos of piggies dressed in costumes is banned on this forum.

@VickiA Just a polite response, I've never personally 'dressed' my pigs in anything constituting a 'costume', and my opinion of the topic is in my post.

I think that the distinction between this being a thread that was pro dressing up and one that was made to garner and generate thought on the topic was made clear in both the title of the thread 'Opinions On Dressing Up Piglets?' and in that my post started "My own thoughts are...". No one so far has posted along the lines of 'omg it's brill, you should all do it!' or offered barbaric restraining tips to secure your piggy victim.

There was a thread recently along the lines of 'where can I get piggy costumes', that's obviously against the forum ethos, and as a result I don't think it has had many responses. However, let's please not get over-militant - just because the forum does not advocate something, are we not allowed to share opinions on it?

Sharing personal opinions is not the same as promoting something, or wanting to persuade others' to a similar way of thinking. If someone is doing this, by all means shut it down, but please give us freedom to exchange our thoughts

well with dogs i feel like it's a different story. I know someone with one of those really thin dogs from eastern europe (the breed name is slipping me for now) anyway with this cold weather the poor dog is shaking of cold, so they put this little vest on her to go outside and in that case i'm very understanding.
However with piggies i don't see the need for this thus feel it's something you just shouldn't do

I wouldn't dress them up, any animal for that matter. Now, my horse I obviously put a blanket on him when it gets cold, but it's not for show.
Some people do put little hats on them for a quick photo though. I personally have not and won't.
