Junior Guinea Pig
Does the Lice n' Easy shampoo say to leave it on for 5 minutes? When I bathed my pigs, I did one pig at a time and I left the shampoo on for a few minutes, but I massaged them the whole time to keep them warm. I remember that they shivered too. You will have to disinfect the run before they go in (F10 or a vinegar solution) and move the run to a different area. As you are using Xeno 450 that might deter the mites/lice from going on the pigs.OK. .. we did the shampoo yesterday. .. mmm they didn't like that and I fear i didn't do a great job... I didn't really do their heads and noses where GG did advise to cis they wete do this area too.. repeat in a week will try next time. Also they both shivered like mad.. prob cos they were frightened more than cold but 5mins felt like for ever
I did notice both have it as when combing them they had a lot of tiny black dots in the fur that I got in the comb. . Much like when my daughter had lice so I think the picture could have been the lice? Anyway going to do again next week. Should I order a xeno to dose again too or is it a waste of money.
I'm not sure if they die after 4 weeks with nothing to eat. If they are small wooden things, you could try putting them in the freezer to kill the mites? I threw wooden tunnels and houses away when my pigs had mites. Thanks lily & rose... is it 4 weeks to leave wooden stuff away so that anything on it dies without anything to feed off. I had cardboard boxes so they have gone and I bought plastic hideys so I can spray them clean. Yes I have f10 and keep cleaning the hutch with it every week. I've ordered more xeno and will apply again. Do everything poss and hopefully they will go. Last time they had them was a lot easier than this... one dose and a cleaning and they were gone
I'm sure it's 4 or 6 weeks. Last year I threw all cardboard stuff out and left their wooden stuff put for a couple of months. This time I've bought plastic to replace so I can wipe like the hutch.I'm not sure if they die after 4 weeks with nothing to eat. In order to prevent your pigs from getting mites/ lice in the future, you could try switching to a dust extracted hay during the summer. I buy Dust Free Hay meadow and timothy hay.
