Currently I have 2 bonded groups of 4 which are great. One group has its moments which include 1 neutered boar & 3 females. 2 of the females are young & going through the 'terrible teens' Daisy inparticular - but I'm not too worried about her - just a bossy madam! THe other group is the Swampies. Origionally I had 5 swampies but Pudding was such a baggage I ended up finding her a FANTASTIC home with a neutered boar & is very happy. So are the remaining 4 swampies now.

My dilemma lies with the 4 others here at the moment. I have 2 boars Pumpkin & Stingo - my sisters pigs who are living together. Inside I have a large C&C cage with Emily (whos lost her 2 cage mates in a month) and Sunshine the satin girl. I am trying everything I can to bond Emily & Sunshine. They are seperated by a grid divider - & have been for about a month now. They are having NONE of it. I've bathed them - I've taken them on a car journey, I've put them in a run which took up of half my garden (no exaggeration!) I've swaped them over in each others side of their C&C cage to get each others scent. Their fiddlesticks are together so it makes on big tunnel but with a divider between. They still rumble & show teeth at each other (the yawn thing they do). When ever I have tried to put them on neutral territory they FLY for each other & I have to seperate with a towel. Other than giving up on the idea of them being together the only thing I can think of is putting a dominant boar in with them........which leads me to..............Stingo & Pumpkin. Do i get these boars neutered & put one in with them & Sunshine. If it doesn't work I have seperated 2 bonded boars who will prob not be able to live together. Even if it does work I will have a lone boar wth no where to go. The cage I have my 4 swampies in is not really big enough for another pig.

Or do I re-home my sisters bonded boars and give a single rescue boar a chance with the Girls and not split up the bonded pair? aaaagh. I can only have 3 big hutches here without it taking over my sanity lol

Any ideas would be great!

Keep those bonded boars together and rehome they have been together a long time now ;) I think you need a really big neutered boar that has been in with sows before and knows how to keep girlies in line ;) You have tried everything to bond Emily and Sunshine so the neutered boar is the only thing left to try.
Pumpkin and Stingo should stay together as I think after such a long time away from females they just would not be dominant enough to sort those minxs out ;)
Thats my thoughts anyway :)

Sounds like it, but is the problem that Emily and Sunshine are both dominant? Difficult, I don't think that Emily and Sunshine are ever going to get along and there is no guarantee that they are both going to accept a neutered boar. If you really haven't got the room I would rehome the two bonded boars and then adopt a couple of baby sows to bond with Emily and Sunshine. That's what I would do, however, you are the only one who knows your guineas. O0

I dont really know, I agree with CC you know the guineas and what they are like... :-\ Some guineas just cant be bonded..I learnt that with Harry!

I would like to say though...its fantastic you are rehoming guineas giving your situation, (or what ive seen you say about it) I didnt quite understand how they could all live in the caravan or how you would move all the hutches! I know its hard and a horrible decision to make but I'm sure it will pay for you to be responsible and think of them first! :) O0

If I moved to the caravan they would come with me in their hutches! I think that splitting Stingo & Pumpkin would be a shame too. I do love these boys & they are a cracking pair so wouldn't be too hard to find a 1st class home with lots of room. Hx

I agree - rehome the boys, and then take in the boar of your dreams (Debbies massive Thistle) and have him sort your madams out!

I will be having Mr H from Cornflower Rescue (aka Starshine) to sort the little madams out. Can't live without a Himi! Apparantly rehoming a pig with red eyes is difficult :(
I am SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY gutted about the 2 boys going but its fairer all round & a lone boar gets a home too. I'm just glad that Stingo & Pumpkin will be getting a better life. They've already stacked on the weight since being here for just over a week. I just hope this blinkin works!

Fingers crossed it works, I am sure Mr H will sort the girls out in no time. On that note congratulations on you new guinea. O0 I can't imagine why it would be hard homing a himi as they are so gorgeous, but I suppose it is down to the fact people think guineas with red eyes look evil. ::) :smitten: I am sure Stingo & Pumpkin will find a good home in no time, much better then their old home anyway. O0 :smitten:

Forgot to say Ulrike that I still kick myself for not having him - I still haven't seen a piggy that big!

I would get the girls a boar each if they were mine. Some of my boys just let the girls get on with it and make no effort to intervene. Others will get involved in disputes but I tend to select groups where he won't need to do that. At least this way you can still get another boar if the girlies don't want to live together. Sunshine can come here if you like :) She reminds me of my Twiggy :)

are you sure about this... ? :-\

You never know what a boar like this might be up to...

if you find Eve mauled one morning in the kitchen, you know who it was, and maybe you will think of me.

If the bonding doesn't work or I can't find another suitable boar then I can think of no better home for her to go to Karen thankyou I will take you up on your offer. :-*
She is a (not so) little cracker and I even got piggy kisses from her the other night.

Hx

ps - still go to get her in for the xray though - had a string of urgent vet bills what with Sue. So should be back on track next week.

Aaaw thankyou Hils, I hope it does all work out for her, but she'd be very welcome here. Take your time re x-rays, their immediate health is more important. I had my P@H Satin Rescue done today but didn't get to see the results because my regular vets on holiday- will be interesting.
