Tonight I noticed that Beans has some weird hard/crusty stuff in her left ear. I've never seen anything like it before in a pigs ear.

This is her right ear which I think looks normal:

And this is her left ear which has bits of orange crusty/sticky stuff (the black patch is just the colour of her skin there):

Any ideas as to what this this? Is it normal :hmm:

Have her checked for wax or ear mites.
My vets are going to be absolutely sick of the sight of me!

Okay thanks. She hasn't been scratching at them or anything and didn't mind me touching. It looks waxy... is there a way of telling if it's more likely to be mites?

As I've been lucky to never have ear mites, I cannot say. But even with wax it is better to get a proper spray (there are several that address both wax and mites in ears) to remove it gently rather than doing something silly like pouring down a piggy' ear. My guess is that it is rather wax. Some piggies are more prone to it than others. ;)

Thanks! Can wax not be removed with a cotton bud? Or does it need a prescription spray? I don't have an issue taking her if it needs seen to but my vets already think I'm some hypochondriac, I don't want to turn up to an appointment for it to just be wax :P
