must be poo question day today!

well, we got the two 4 months old guinea pigs yesterday to keep reece company.

i've noticed that their poo is very light coloured and a bit orange? it's the right shape, size and is solid.. but the colour is very odd.

i'm guessing this is because of their diet but as i don't know what they'd been fed (apart from nuggets)... i'm guessing, too much carrot maybe? or no hay?

All of the above! Some feeds have a lot of colouring, nearly always natural so nothing much to be concerned over but not great. Lots of hay, good nuggets and not too much veg should sort their poo out.

thanks suzy. good to know it's nothing serious. they now have oxbow timothy hay, supreme science nuggets and spinach twice a day so hopefully the poo will be the right colour soon! thank you!

Quite often pale coloured poo can be a sign of incorrect feeding or dehydration. I'm sure that with the correct feeding and plenty of fresh water things will return to normal very quickly :)

thanks teresa! i just got home and went to check on them and the poo does look a lot better! still not right but nowhere near as pale. and they've eaten quite a lot of hay and nuggets - hungry little monkeys! i hope some of it is reece and he'll start putting weight on now he has company.

good news! poo's the right colour now! that didn't take long :)

I'm guessing it was probably a lack of green veggies - spinach dandelions and spring greens are great for improving poo colour :))

Glad to hear all is looking OK

ah! must be the spinach then! they were also on a mix whereas i give them nuggets.

their poos are absolutely huge now!

Hi :)

Another thing to bear in mind is that if the piggies eat a lot of carrot, dandelion or other vitamin D source, the pee and sometimes poop will go orange.

You will know if this is the problem if the pee is orange or brownish orange.
