My guinea pig has been leaving orange ish colored spots in her cage. I’m not sure if it’s urine or blood. She gets timothy hay all the time, and pellets in the morning. There are no dyes she gets, so it can’t be that. She is about 5 years old, her sister died unexpectedly a couple months ago, and I have no idea why. Anyone know what this is?F4ECBAC9-485B-43E3-A20A-49B915F9BB1C.webp

Is it Pee that’s discoloured the bedding? It can oxidise and change colour on exposure to oxygen. If you’re worried get her to a Vet.

Yes, usually the bedding would be dark, not colored.

Guinea pig urine oxidises quite quickly once it is exposed to the air, so can often look red/orange in colour whilst still being perfectly normal.
However problems in urine can also be the sign of an infection or bladder problem so it is always advisable to get it checked out if you are worried.
Do you weight your girl regularly?
Weight loss is often also an early warning signal that something is amiss.

In the first instance it might be worth making her an appointment with the vet and getting her urine checked.

Hi! Please take a deep breath. This is just normal oxidised dried pee.

Blood in the pee doesn't mix and dries as red to brown spots in an orange to rusty pee puddle but never evenly mixed in. ;)
The longer the pee is exposed to air, the rustier and darker the colour. It is clear when it leaves the body.

Thank you so much for all your responses!
