Some of you may already be aware that my Eliza had bloody urine last summer. She was on Septrin for 4 weeks and any infection eventually cleared up. To begin with, her urine was a red / rusty / brown colour and then it went clear but still had 'traces' of blood.

She has had normal wee since then. However, yesterday I noticed that her wee was a very yellow / orange colour and it still is today :( As you can imagine, I am worrying again. The vet said to take in a urine sample if her urine went back to the horrible colour it was in the summer but it isn't the same colour as then and I don't want to go rushing to the vets if I don't need to plus they are closed for the rest of the weekend.

Eliza is a pig who doesn't drink much although they both get lots of watery veg. The girls have had a bit of a fall out too so I'm not sure if she is just a little stressed as Eleanor was a bit snappy with her yesterday. They both also went to the vets yesterday for a nail trim which Eliza in particular hates.

Am I worrying over nothing or is this the start of yet another UTI :(

Do you think you could try to up her water intake with a little syringe help, you could also get some cranberry juice too. Maybe give it a few days to see if it returns to normal after you have tried.x>>

Good luck, I hope it is nothing, I must admit it is very awkward having to make them take from a syringe, but if it helps it has to be a plus.

I find that leafy and iron rich veg like spinach, cabbage cause my bladder stone boy Mimsi to have discoloured/bloody urine. I would go with the cranberry in the meantime and also cucumber. Hugs to you, I know how much you worry about Eliza.

guinea lynx says
"NORMAL:
Urine may be clear to cloudy in color. Calcium compounds in the urine cause this cloudiness. Normal urine is not gritty in texture. Dried urine may leave powdery white calcium compounds. Very young guinea pigs often have an orange or brown tint to their urine. Urine sometimes changes to an orange color on standing (this may be the oxidation of porphyrins in the urine)." Here is the link scroll down to urine.

Eliza is fine in herself. I had both girlies out in their indoor run and there were 2 normal wee's but I'm not sure if Eliza did any of them. There are some orangey stains on the newspaper in the hutch but it is a very light orange. I just hope that I am over reacting.
