I know piggies need a lot of vitamin C, but do they need oranges? I've never fed mine oranges, but I do feed them daily veggies including: Hearts of Romane Lettuce, Spring Greens, Bell Peppers all colours, Carrot, Celery, Apple (occasionally). Are they getting enough vitamin C or should I be feeding them oranges as well? Obviously they get unlimited hay and two handfuls of burgess excel mint pellets every day.

Alice and Tamsin love satsuma segments as a treat and wheek when they scent the fruit being peeled! But it is not a daily thing.

Guinea pigs can eat orange and satsuma in small quantities, but fruit (including tomato) should be on the menu only twice a week. Too much and too often can cause painful sores on the lips and mouth.

Peppers of any colour, broccoli (stem and florets) and fresh herbs like coriander/cilantro, parsley, dill and mint have more vitamin C than oranges. You can feed a slice of pepper or a sprig of coriander daily; the others are best rotated and fed no more than 2-3 times a week. @Dindypig has given you the link to our veg list with vitamin C grading.

Thank you for this info. I didn't know about fruit possibly causing sores... I will be careful from now on.

Thank you so much! My piggies favourite is spring greens, I get a huge bag in sainsburys for £1 and it lasts 2 or 3 days (my rabbit gets it too!). I was just worried I wasn't giving them enough vitamin c. :)
