Today i found a store that carries orchard grass. Its soft and pretty and the girls already love it. After watching them eat i have come to the conclusion that orchard grass is guinea pig spaghetti.

Also do I need to watch them with it? Its greener than the timothy hay and in the horse world greener means more sugar. Don't know if this pertains to o/g tho

My 3 have mostly Oxbow Orchard Grass and enjoy it, after they decided they didn't like the timothy Hay. I don't think it matters that it is greener, that probably just means it is younger and fresher. I recently found a UK supplier of Timothy hay which is usually much greener and softer than any other timothy hays I've seen, and my 3 will eat that but still not other brands ... fussy lot!

The timothy i get here seems very stemmy and course. They waste so much of it. I stopped at a farm supply store today and they had orchard grass so I got a small bag to try. So far so good. I'm curious to see how much waste is involved.

My lot waste the same amount regardless of what type it is!
before i found haybox, I used to give mine oxbow mix which was Timothy and orchard grass. It was so soft and they liked it.
I then discovered haybox on subscription and I give them meadow hay which is soft for eating and bedding and Timothy hay which is coarse and stalky and my boys love both of them and now wouldn’t touch the soft oxbow hay after they’d had the haybox hay.
