I haven't posted on here for a long time, sadly, but my lovely Oreo died a couple of days ago & no one in real life understands.

She was fine in the morning and at lunchtime when I gave her some salad, but when I topped up the hay at about 5pm she was lying very flat with her face in the corner of the cage. I sat & stroked her & she stopped breathing soon after. She was around 4-5 years old (rescue, so we can't be sure) & had beautiful markings, we nicknamed her Phantom because half her face was white, like the Phantom of the Opera.

Cage-mate & sister Bailey seems to be doing OK for now, but I have some difficult decisions to make soon as I do not want to get more piggies, but she can't be by herself. I don't know what to do.

Goodbye, sweet girl. I miss you.

I am very sorry; it sounds like heart/mulit-organ failure. Lots of piggies, especially older ones, have died in the last few days due to the hot and very humid weather, which has put enormous stress on the circulation system/heart. I have lost the frailest of my old piggies myself. A sudden death always comes as a huge shock, as you cannot brace yourself for it and are left wondering what the hell has happened! :(
RIP Oreo

Hopefully you can find a solution for Bailey. Perhaps you could offer to foster a rescue companion for the time she is alive? Or one of the Scottish forum members may be able to help? It is always very difficult when you come to the end of the seesaw chain.

You're all very kind.

Wiebke I am thinking about all these options, I don't know what to go for. Fostering might be a solution, but I have never had good results when trying to bond adult sows before so I am maybe feeling too negative about it.

Sorry for your loss too. I knew a lot of people were experiencing this because of the hot weather :(

Sorry to hear about Oreo thought id show you my Oreo who happens to be a girl but she was a baby so I had to re-home her x
