Hello all, we had a really unfortunate incident two weeks ago where the female guinea pig we bought from pets at home was unknowingly pregnant. She was very young and gave birth to 3 babies. She passed away 4 days later which broke all our hearts. We bought the babies inside and they seemed to be coping really well, feeding on milk and starting to eat hay then rapidly passed away. It was devastating and we were all fairly traumatised by the experience. I felt responsible and still do even though logically I know it's not my fault. My eldest daughter is autistic and the final baby that died was the one she had bonded with and selected to keep. After the 3 previous deaths in such quick succession we had to quickly decide how to handle the final death and rightly or wrongly, due to how distressed our daughter was becoming we told her we were taking the baby to a foster mummy to ensure she was okay. It was our way of protecting her from something she wouldn't be able to cope with, whereas our younger daughter was upset but would have recovered. We are now in a position where I am trying to find a similar G pig which isn't that easy. The mother was fairly dainty with a fairly flat face (more rabbit looking) and I am wondering how I can best go about trying to source a similar one. I imagine the colouring can be slightly different as I am sure different colours come through as they get older. Any help much appreciated.. my daughter keeps asking when she's going to get bubbles back :(. I have attached some pictures. The whiter one is bubbles (female) and the other one was the boy. I would absolutely love to be able to sort this for Christmas.

So very sorry that you have found yourself in this tragic situation.
I know that autism isn’t always easy to deal with and is a very broad spectrum so I’m not sure I can advise as you know your daughter best.

I would recommend a reputable rescue if you want to get more guinea pigs but there is no guarantee of a similar coloured one being available.

Holding you in my thoughts

I’m so very sorry. How sad for you all. Could you say to your daughter that Bubbles is so happy with his new friends that you don’t want to split them up again but there are so many other piggies looking for forever homes in rescues that your daughter could give them the best life ever? Could that work? Good luck ❤️
