Sending hugs to Oscar xx>>>
Sounds as though it may have been just a 'one off' incident but at least the meds. will do the job on the nasties if any...
Have you got some probiotics as Baytril can be harsh on their tums and upset him when they kick in ? Not all piggies react badly to it but just to be prepared :)

Yeah ive given him so Avipro but hes a little with the syringe and i have to literally ram it down his throat lol

Aw - sounds like typical 'boarish' behaviour hun.
C'mon Oscar, be a good boy for your mummy and take your meds ;)
A little treat goes down great after so they get used to the syringe and find they'll 'behave' better knowing a sprig of dill or parsley will follow the nasty meds... my last poorly piggy was two and a half weeks into a month of treatment and amazed me she starting biting the syringe as if to say 'hurry up, I want my treats' :{ :(|)

Our girls are quite the opposite with Avi-pro they will run off with syringe, they go mad for it. Baytril however is shunned....

C'mon little Oscar, lots of healing vibes to him x

The only other piggy ive used it on loved it and would bite the syring off of me, but Oscar honestly you put anything near him and his head goes up and hes like nooooooo get off me

Just weighed my boy, he hasnt lost any weight, hes a good 1200 which is actually the highest he has been since December, so happy with that. Cant see any blood again either.

Just spotted the thread, loads of healing wheeks, had a similiar scare from Star a couple of weeks back and after the first sign of blood after a week of baytril had no more sign.

Hope Oscar is on the mend now. We had this type of thing 2 or 3 times with our old pig Willow some years back now. There would be blood & it wasn't very clear where it had come from, seemed more likely from his bottom than in his urine. He was checked over by our exotics vet but nothing was ever found. We did stop feeding red pepper though just in case it was the red pepper colouring urine, seemed unlikely but we were scraping the barrel at this point!

I hope its a one off! Hes just acting so normal, i could understand it if he was showing ill signs etc anyway, off to bed now, tomorrows another day and another battle with the syringe lol

I know, I'm not 100% sure as its on a newspaper and there is a pinkish tinge but there is a pic next to it thats pinky so ill be monitoring this evening and tomorrow.

Also, he seems to be leaving lots of big calcium deposits on the fleece etc. My poor boy :(

Does anyone know if it would be ok to start the Metacam again?

Thanks Piggyfan, he doesnt seem to be in pain, and i have only found a tiny little bit of watery pink, but i think i kind of knew it wouldnt be the end of it, it must have been there for a reason lol.

Debbie, the bottle says 3 drops to be given daily, would you always give it twice daily, just out of interest? Thanks.

3 drops equates to about 0.15ml - Simon says it can be given up to twice daily. However some vets are prescribing much larger doses, so yes I am sure 0.15 ml twice daily is going to be fine. If he doesn't seem to be in any pain then maybe once a day will be ok though. I am just thinking that if it's an inflammatory cystitis then some Metacam could really help. xx

Hi, the course was for five days, but there was more Baytril left so i wish i had carried on with it.

I asked them last time i went if they would ever prescribe Septrin and they said they would after they had gone down the Baytril route, so i dont know if that means they prescribe it a few times and then Septrin.
