I have not been on this forum before but having just said goodbye to our gorgeous, inquisitive pig Jazz, and with a heart broken.. I was searching to see if anyone else had had a similar experience. I came across almost an identical situation that was posted in 2012
Very Wobbly Pig, Hypoglycemia

Jazz our pig...was approx 2.5yrs old (we rescued her and another pig Rebecca when they were prob about 6months...Jazz was full of life, inquisitive, a real cheeky personality.. (whilst Rebecca was very shy and timid). Both gorgeous pigs. They had the run of our room, and in the summer would be out in the garden during the day. Both were absolutely fine until the beginning of Dec when we noticed Jazz was not interacting as much and seemed “not herself”.. gone off food a bit.. so I took her to the vet and she had in fact lost quite a bit of weight.. they started her on antibiotics and gave her some pain relief.. after 2 days she kept making funny noises in her cage, hunching herself and looked like she was having difficulty passing stool so I took her back to vet and they did X-ray (bloated stomach but nothing else of note).. she was started on gut motility drugs and critical care food).. I fed her every few hrs during day and she seemed to respond. She started eating (but not much) and passing stool again. But after 4-5 days of stopping meds and critical care feed she went down hill again (floppy, lethargic, not eating and drinking, so we went back to the vets. They restarted all her meds (said could be UTI) and to try a longer course of antibiotics ( and I upped the critical care feed). Again she picked up but was never quite herself.. I also noticed her behaviour towards Rebecca changed and she wouldn’t leave her alone.. and they started nipping at each other more frequently. At times Jazz looked like she was limping/dragging back legs but there were no injuries and then u would see her waddle around again
which was odd. On NYD she looked dreadful again and looked like she had stopped grooming herself. When I went to clean her she had diarrhoea and I was really worried about her. So we went to the emergency vet and they kept her in overnight to stabilise her. They gave her fluids, pain relief and fed her overnight. When I went to collect her she looked worse (Just wasn’t moving) and they told me she was displaying neurological signs (twitching/seizure) and her glucose levels were low (despite giving her glucose supplements and critical care feed). They had scanned her but found nothing obvious. She was also very cold and they were actively warming her. We were told to take back to our own vet. By the time I got there (20 min journey she was hardly moving and I think she was fitting. The vet examined her and said she felt bloated still and was clearly in pain, she put her on the floor to see if she am could walk and she didn’t move. She looked so poorly and it was so distressing to see her like this..I had to make the most painful decision and put her to sleep.
My heart is really broken (and my children very upset) as she was a gorgeous pig..there is a real void in our house and I am worried for Rebecca. We will see how she goes over next week or so.
i wanted to post in case anyone else had also gone through this.
RIP our gorgeous little piggy xx 💔

Hi and welcome

I am sorry that it is under such sad circumstances. Jazz was gorgeous!

You did your best and don't have to blame yourself for anything; Jazz couldn't have had a more devoted owner.
It sounds to me that unfortunately Jazz was rather likely already dying by the time she was seen by the emergency vet, which is the reason what nothing has helped. A cold guinea pig means in my experience generally that the blood circulation is no longer working properly and that the body has started to close down. Once that is underway, there is nothing a vet can do to reverse that. :(
Guinea pigs live on fast forward because of their quick metabolism - and that is never more noticeable when they are ill.

Could you please add in which country you are?
