Our girls have been with us 2 years and have recently started eating their hutch lining. We do feed and stimulate them enough! We've tried putting more sawdust on top of the paper but they still work their way down to the paper. This can't be good for them! Any ideas?

I stopped using newspaper after reading this thread ..

Stopped Using Newspaper Under Bedding!

I find that guinea pigs will nibble at newspaper if there is any in their hutch. As long as you are giving them plenty of wooden chews and hay as well for them to chew on, I wouldn't worry too much if I were you.

Ah the sound of newspaper being ripped. Vimto will rip it up and then Widget will take it from her mouth - this does not impress me :))

Newspaper wont hurt them at all by the way don't worry

I use fleece liners with newspaper underneath. I find that some pigs wee more than others and there is one pen that always has a corner where the paper is wet under the fleece and the fleece is damp.
Has anyone else had the same problem and does removing the paper solve it?

My boys love playing with newspaper. They tear it up and run around with it and if I put it on the floor they burrow through it. They do have plenty of other toys and food but like kids seem to like to choose their own entertainment sometimes.
As far as I know they use vegetable dyes for the ink now so it won't harm them.

Lots of packaging paper goes on the floor and in the pens for the pigs to play with and chew.

Paper, cardboard, rubber soles (flip flops are a favourite), cables (especially laptop cables), toast, bread, potato skins, tissues (these last four are Twinkles favourites), if it is in reach (and these means in litter bins) they will take and nibble. This list is not complete but is as a result of allowing free range in the house.
