It’s with great sadness I write this post.
Our Hamish, my furry friend, had to be helped over the rainbow bridge on Friday.

Hamish, who with Hector became our first guinea pigs together . My first pets.
Hector & Hamish our little duo, or H&H- mostly happy with each other, they both taught us so much about the wonderful world of guinea pigs.

After Hector passed, along came Billy who after a couple of weeks living together with Hamish, ended up as Hamish’s neighbour. Unfortunately Billy had bladder stones and had to be pts, earlier this year. More recently Wally moved in to be Hamish’s neighbour.

(Hamish, my little pig, I really hope you taught Wally enough manners to help him negotiate this next step in his life.)

It has been an absolute joy to share our home with Hamish. I always felt like he could make himself understood, even though he couldn’t speak hooman.
When Hamish first came to live with us we would joke he was the piggy version of a dog, as he got older he was such a chilled calm and content OAP.

Somehow he always got his way. A few extra sneaky pellets, an extra pea flake, a snuggle safe, even when it perhaps wasn’t quite cold enough! Even buying what we called posh hay- which was getting a bit pricy but was your favourite. ( Somehow we have a whole box left- that you persuaded me to get recently!)
Hamish absolutely loved a cosy fleece corner tunnel I made, which we would often have to bribe him to leave.

Hamish also loved a hay nest, and could easily panic us for a short time, wondering where he had gone, until we spotted the hay going up and down with his breathing.

Hamish knew our piggy routine to the minute & would quickly let us know what time it was, meds, veg/pellets, he taught his new neighbours the piggy times at our home and how to play hunt the pellet.

I loved a little sit & chat with Hamish, he could be quite vocal when in the right mood- filling me in on whatever was happening in his world, and yes I am sure I got some choice words when he wasn’t happy.
Hamish did a happy purr a couple of times when relaxing with me, I felt so honoured.

We have had our emotional and medical ups and downs together, somehow muddling through.

Unfortunately this time, we couldn’t help you get through. Your pain was too much, and you did your best to show us you were a happy guinea pig- but we could tell it was time.

Sweet dreams my Hamish pig, wheeks to Hector for me.

We are missing you sooo much.

My Forever Pet

There's something missing in my home,
I feel it day and night,
I know it will take time and strength
before things feel quite right.

But just for now, I need to mourn,
My heart... it needs to mend.
Though some may say,
"It's just a pet,"
I know I've lost a friend.

You've brought such laughter to my home,
and richness to my days.
A constant friend through joy or loss
with gentle, loving ways.

Companion, friend, and confidante,
A friend I won't forget.
You'll live forever in my heart,
My sweet, forever pet.

I’m so sorry Hamish has left for the rainbow bridge. Popcorn high with Hector gorgeous ❤️

What a beautiful tribute to a gorgeous, happy boy. A lovely poem too, thanks for sharing.

I’m so sorry you had to make that decision to show him the final act of love, and it sounds like you had been through a lot together.

What a happy life you gave Hamish, with such care and comfort, allowing him to live his best life and wrap you round his little paw to get some extra treats too! I’m sure he absolutely loved being part of your family.

It’s so painful to have to say goodbye to such a beloved frind, but I hope that in time the many happy memories will outweigh the sense of profound loss and sadness you’re bound to be feeling at the moment.

Take care and be proud of the wonderful life you gave him (and your other pigs).

I hope wally is doing ok too.
