Hey I’m new here and we have two boys called eeyore and tigger. They are 7 weeks old. We got them on Thursday last weekI have never had guinea pigs before so it’s all very new.

so eeyore is very shy and squeaky one but is very nervous and tigger is more confident but doesn’t squeak as of yet..... is this normal?

we have a bluebell hutch from pets at home witg a thermal cover - I keep questioning my partner to weather it’s warm enough for them to be outside at night time, what do u think? I am just worried about them getting cold.

they love their vegetables and some
Fruit and they love their cuddles. I will
Attach some pictures of them but I would really appreciate some guidece from you all. Many thanks D691888C-7447-4EF3-BF38-2A635FF0B40A.webpD691888C-7447-4EF3-BF38-2A635FF0B40A.webpD77D45AC-0193-42B0-9F77-5FF6112DBC15.webp

Firstly your boys are gorgeous and it is lovely to have you here.

A good place to start is with our new owner guides
New Owners' Most Helpful How-To Guides and Information

Were the boys outside when you got them?
If they are already used to being outside then they should probabably be ok. If not they would benefit from some sort of heat source (snuggle safe heat pads are good) and lots of hay in a well insulated hutch to make sure they stay warm enough at night.

You may also want to look into a more sturdy hutch in the longer term.
The PAH Bluebell is quite flimsy and unlikely to stand up to long term outdoor use, but coming into Spring/Summer will be fine for now, which gives you time to do some research.

Once again it is lovely to have you here. I am sure you will love having guinea pigs.

gorgeous piggies!

Yes it is normal. One of mine is very vocal and the other does talk but less so.

I agree with @Swissgreys advice.

If they were living inside up until you got them then it is a little early for them to be moved outside but as long as you can provide them with lots of hay to fill the hutch for bedding; a blanket put on the hutch but under the thermal cover can really help trap heat in; and using microwaveable heat pads is really important for outdoor piggies (At this time of year they will only be needed at night but in winter they will need to be used morning and night), then they will be ok.

I have a pair of three year old boars. They live in my shed year round (there is a hutch in there also). It is entirely possible to keep them warm enough to be outside piggies, it just takes some work and planning!

They are most comfortable between 18-23 degrees but the thing you really need to avoid is large temperature fluctuations so outdoor piggies should not really be brought indoors for playtime during the winter as the change from out to in is a large fluctuation (unless you can leave a window/door open to allow the room to cool right down before).

I absolutely agree that the Bluebell not really substantial enough for the longer term. I originally had one for my two but as it was in the shed it didn’t matter that it wasnt great as the shed was their shelter, the hutch just a big hidey house effectively! My piggies got a new hutch in the summer, and the bluebell has been moved outside and used as a run shelter for one of my rabbits. The hutch has only gone through one winter and is covered with a thermal cover and tarpaulin and it is already showing signs that it isn’t faring well.

Hello and welcome
Aw, what gorgeous boys you have there
Some piggies squeak and some don’t, they are all individuals just like us. I think your piggies will be ok on a night now, make sure you put lots of hay in their bedroom so they can snuggle under if it does get cold. A hutch hugger is a must for keeping them warm in the colder months but you are coming into better weather now, so you have time to research your options.
You may decide come Autumn that you will want to bring them inside permanently for winter, in that case you can look into getting a suitable cage nearer the time. Some members keep their outside all year quite happily, some keep in a shed or outbuilding too x

Hello and welcome to the forum. They are gorgeous. I house my two in a hutch in the garage. They have two heat pads in with them day and night and I still worry they’re cold.

Welcome to the forum.
Those are 2 stunning boys - so cute.
Hope you find the forum helpful and fun.
Please ask questions as there’s always someone with an answer.
I’m delighted you know how to add photos- hope this means there will be lots more.

Welcome to you and your 2 cuties, lovely pigtures, more please🙏!

:wel: I think if they were housed indoors then you need to do the same for more. The night time temperatures are still a little low to be putting them out.

Hiya all,

thanknyou for the replies sorry it’s been slow replying back. I didn’t have notification on to say I had messages.
We have now brought them in and they have a cage inside during the night and outside during the day. They seem very happy.
