Hi I just wanted to ask a question. I would like my guinea pig to have a run outside to play in, fresh air etc. I currently have half concrete and half artificial grass. Last year I covered the concrete with rolls of turf (brought from b&q / range) this lasted all summer with regular watering and grew so long! If I did this again this year would it be safe to put the guinea pig on, to play and eat?

I would be a little concerned about any fertiliser in the rolls of sod. Does anybody know about that? Maybe it isn't a problem at all?

I have decided against the real grass for now, but thankyou for your replies.
1 more question, when can guinea pigs start going outside (just to play) I'm in Devon, is it warm enough now? Thanks

It needs to be above 15 degrees and dry before they can go out.
The guide is that you should be able to stand on the ground with bare feet and wearing a t shirt without feeling chilly. If you get cold feet or feel cold on your arms then your piggies are also going to feel the cold

Please also be aware that your guinea pigs should be kept indoors during the middle of the day in heatwaves as it is not just the direct sun but also a sun-heated breeze that can (and sadly dors) kill.
Hot Weather Management, Heat Strokes and Fly Strike

Your run should also be predator-safe against cats, foxes, rats, birds of prey etc.
