Hello am researching housing before adopting two Guinea pigs. A local rescue has suggested using an outdoor run in my spare room as I need a secure lid due to having a cat but I’m worried about it being on floor and how easy it will be to clean out. I’ve seen another wooden house which can go on legs which be good but it’s smaller and more expensive. Has anyone used the outdoors ones inside with a plastic liner on floor ? Outdoor run would be 18sq fit and wooden house would be 12 sq ft

They make c&c cages with a stand.

Some people put their c&c on an IKEA table.

Thanks yeah I’ve seen lots of set ups but the lids are too flimsy so need so,ething secure. Wooden ones I’ve seen look like they have better lids.

I have a c&c cage with a lid ( as I have a dog) it is very heavy and secure - I used cable ties as extra security for the whole c&c
I used to have an outdoor house with run indoors but it was really difficult to clean out and it was dark.
The c&c cage I have is raised off the floor( great for storage ) and is very easy to clean.

We have used our outside run inside as a temporary solution, I found it a bit cumbersome and it was always going wonky as we have a folding wooden run.
A fixed shape one might be better. I just climbed in for cleaning out.

Thanks that’s what I’m worried about. Kneeling down and bending over every day. The other one I can put on a desk and have storage under. Worth the extra to save my back lol

Yes my ground floor cage was hard on my knees and my back ! I found the boys aren’t a running off like they did as I’m not towering over them !

I use an outside run as a bonding pen inside when I need to bond in a neutral territory. I have a piece of lino flooring which fits the run.

That’s a very good point about your back. Our boys usually home is C&C grids up on some furniture boards across IKEA units, which helps with storage too!
