Do piggies spend a lot of the day in their outdoor runs during high Summer? At the moment they spend a couple of hours in their run if the weather is warm enough but I have been wondering what we do as the weather warms up in earnest?

Mine spend most of the day in thier run in a shady spot in the hieght of summer. Its cooler in the run than the hutch here. If they are in the hutch I give them ice packs to keep them cooler also put ice packs in the runs.

yes i do the same, shade is important, but if i go out at all i leave them in their hutch, and keep them cool with frozen bottles wrapped in a tea towel, still worry about them though.

I managed to find something called Chin Chiller yesterday - a piece of granite - and I have started saving water bottles to freeze.
At the moment there is enough shade for the run however in the height of Summer when the sun is higher there is little shade on the grass. We are planning on replacing the shed and I'm toying with the idea of placing it in a position such that it generates shade between the shed and the house in the afternoon, and having the run or even the hutch in that shady area on hot days. I am definitely still learning!
