Hi all! I’m a guinea pig mom of 4, 2 girls, two boys, all about 2 years old. They have been indoors since we got them, girls and boys each in 2x4 C&C cages with fleece as bedding. We are currently on the process of building them an outdoor shed and converting it into a cozy space for them, complete with heating and proper ventilation and skylights (I’ve done a ton of research!). I would love anyone’s opinion on the best long lasting bedding for easy cleanup. Since they won’t be in the house, I don’t see the need for them to be on fleece. I’m also having a baby in a few months and would like to keep the soiled fleece out of my washing machine. I know pine or cedar is bad, but I’m looking into aspen....seems cost effective for two large cages and would need to be changed once a week. If you have something better that you use and won’t break the bank, let me know!

welcome to the forum 😊

If you have an equine supplier near you, it’s worth seeing if they have a non scented hemp based bedding such as
Aubiose ...

I agree with Veggies Galore - if you can find an equine feed merchant you’re likely to get any bedding much cheaper and Aubiose is good. I use snowflake shavings if I can’t get Aubiose but I do prefer Aubiose. I’ve tried Rivera Pro which is chopped rape straw but that can be quite spikey and I ended up with it splinters of it in my fingers sometimes. You can usually get bales of meadow hay from feed merchants too which can work out way cheaper than buying it from pet stores.
