Hi guys, in the UK it is so cold at the moment, like -8 at night but the cold front has broken and expecting lows of 0 degrees this evening. The piggies are in the garage in a large hutch, which is insulated with a thick woken tarpaulin with two duvets underneath. In the bedroom area they have a tubular heater, a guniea pig tee pee bed thing and a snuggle safe heat pad which I reheat morning and night. Will they be okay? I'm worried about them!

:wel:

How old are they?
Have they always been in the garage?
Do you have a thermometer on the hutch?

They should be fine.
Keeping them outdoors/in a shed etc does take more work but is very possible to keep them
Perfectly safe. Being in an outbuilding of any sort goes along way to helping in any event as it protects them from the elements.
Making sure you remove wet bedding and hay daily is also important.

I keep my four piggies in an insulated hutch in my insulated shed. Their hutch is full of hay (hay insulates so also helps keep them warm). and they have Snugglesafe heatpads. there are also thermal covers, blankets and a duvet on their hutch. I don’t have electric in my shed but I am still able to keep it at least 12 degrees in their hutch through my multiple measures
They have been absolutely fine. My oldest pair are four years old and have always lived out there.
I do have a pair of youngsters who are around 16 weeks so I have been more anxious of them but they are also absolutely fine.

One is 1 and the other is 4. They are used to being outside but we rarely see such cold evening temperatures! I don't have a thermometer actually, I'm going to go and get ine because that will put my mind at rest I'm sure. Thanks! X

The fact you have access to a tubular heater should be be helping a lot. A thermometer will certainly help you to feel more secure about it.

My two boars live in my garage. I’ve also been very worried by these very low temperatures. I’ve added more hay into their bedroom areas. Snugglesafes heated twice a day. More covers on overnight. They have been fine. I’m glad you have access to a heater too.
