OH cut the grass today, and i was wondering if we should wait to put pigs outside? is there any residue or something from the lawn mower that could linger on the grass and be not so good for them?
Cut grass gives piggies wind. I leave it for a few days after the grass has been cut - and don't feed your piggies the trimmings either please. I have no idea why, I just know that others have said this on the forum and I can verify it as true as trimmed grass gave Columbia appalling wind a few years ago. So now I wait a bit, just to be safe!
Just to add, we cut the lawn last Saturday and they all went out on the grass today with no bad side effects.
I think it is something to do with the increased surface area of the trimmings meaning that they ferment very quickly. If you add grass clippings to a compost heap they get warm overnight because of all of the bacteria working.
well before i could protest, kyle decided to put them on the grass. there were no grass clippings on the ground (the mower has a bag) so i hope they'll be ok. I'm all paranoid now
oh well, at least they had fun.
I think it is the grass clippings themselves that cause the wind, if you had a grass box on i don't think you have any worries. Correct me if I am wrong.
