i was told this was alternative- an operation. what otrher stuff can be done

You are correct, I don't know how it is done... but there is other ways.

Someone will be around shortly I'm sure to tell you :) xx

Well when my pig cleo was ill she was diagnosed with ovarian cysts and was treated with a hormone injection which I think causes them to shrink. Unfortunately she also had other problems so we never got to see whether the injection worked or not.

There are two options one is a hormone injection and the other is removing the fluid from the cyst thus shrinking it. You will need to phone the CCT for more info i am afraid. If you can i would urge you to go to the CCT in cambridgeshire. I trekked two of my piggies there to get told one of my piggies had been misdiagnosed and to get an abscess sorted without GA. Fingers crossed i shall get jive back this weekend coming :)

There are, quite simply, three treatment options.

1. Hormone therapy (hCG injections)
2. Draining via a needle in the abdomen
3. A spay - as a last resort. Bear in mind that a spay is very invasive surgery and really, not at all logical treatment-wise for the large majority of sows, especially the older sows who may suffer from cystic ovaries.

I've had success in the past with one of my girls with just hormone therapy.
