"Ovarian Growths

Intact female guinea pigs are prone to getting growths in their ovaries. These can be cysts or tumors. These growths often cause a change in the female guinea pig's hormones which is thought to cause the hair loss. The guinea pig will act otherwise normally, but she will have two symmetrical bald patches on her hindquarters. Spaying is often the only practical treatment."

I was just reading up on things and came across this little bit, now ive not experianced this myself yet but I'm SURE this will not be the only sign right?

Could anyone else shine some light on Ovarian Growths please. What other signs ect.

Treatment options in preferred order.
1 Leave alone, if small.
2 Drain the cyst fluid.
3 Hormone treatment.
(4 Not recommended: surgical treatment, a major operation with all of the attendant risks)

Hi

Ovarian Cysts are apparently quite common with un-bread sows and quite uncommon in sows that have had only one litter.

Its is possible to drain the cysts, I have seen it done but wouldn't want to do it myself.

Most Vets want to do a full hysterectomy

One of the signs is putting on a lot of weight.
