Christopher Nibbles has been to the vets for full tests on his kidneys and urine and everything was clear. I was told otherwise he looked bright, alert and in good health. He is quick feisty and apart from constantly drinking and peeing resulting in running out of water in a day an£ a saturated cage.

I found a new vet for a second opinion. This vet thought he was a fit little piggie and suggested drinking could be a psychological problem as tests were normal , never heard about that before and wondered if anyone else has?

At the moment I have two bottles on his cage as he is frantic for water and wanted him reassured if this was 5h3 problem. I wonder if I’m feeding an obsession? In his favour, I had a pet sitter let me down last year and he was without dried food and water for about 36 hours. The other four seemed to cope. Needless to say I have a new pet sitter now !

My Gibson can drink a bottle in a day - he is always at it. But I have also noticed he dribbles a lot of it down his chest while drinking, so perhaps that is why?

My other boy Higgins hardly touches a drop.

Gibson has been tested as has yours, all was normal so I've just taken it as it's how he is.

Well done getting a new pet sitter!

Hi!

Individual water intake can vary massively from nothing to over 300 ml in a day - and they can all be normal. As long as Christopher's water intake is regularly high, then there is nothing to worry.
What needs to be investigated are any sudden noticeable changes that are not diet (overfeeding veg and watery fruit, especially in hot weather), weather/heating/air con related or due to a bottle malfunction (dripping/running out or blocked nozzle etc.), whether that is an increase or a piggy suddenly stopping to drink.
