hi there I'm off on saturday to collect 2 female piggies from a lady whos little girl as become allergic to them ive spoke to the lady tonight and she said that there both 12 month old there not too use to been handled and they are known to nibble now and again she also said that they need a diet due to been slightly over weight can some one tel me what I'm to do to bring there weight down and can some one also tel me if i can tame these due to the piggies nibbling now and again

Good on you for taking those unwanted girls on!

I would wait until you have seen them and weighed them whether they are really overweight or not. It takes a long time of a combination of the wrong diet and not enough space to work out to really make a piggy fat!

At 12 months they should have most of their final adult weight and will have started filling out in the back to get the female pearshaped form, which many people mistake for fat.

thanks guys for been so helpful i not sure what kind of state these little girls will be in as the lady said there over weight due to her over feeding them and she did say that they may need a bigger cage as she has 2 of them in a cage that is 2 small for them both i was nice as i spoke to her on the phone but between us i was really angry i just cant wait to go see these little girls and bring them home put them on the road of a decent happy healthy long life i will post some pics soon as ive got them then you can see what you think for your selves once again guys thank you so much for the great advice much appreciated love from andrea (mollie) xx

Best of luck - at least, those girls will have a good, loving home with you from now on!

Well done for taking them on :) I agree with the others. May be wait until you see them on Saturday before making any assumptions.

I have a chunky girl who I thought was over weight. My vet assured me that her weight is fine and posts no health risks. She is just a chunky lady :)

just to let you all know that i managed to get across last night to take a look at these piggies they were extremley over weight i noticed that they were both looking on the ill side so i took them to the vets this morning both little piggies had to be put to sleep due to breathing difficulties and health problems they were cute little girls but the vet said they where in very bad shape i just wanted to let you all know as I'm sure this may gut you all like its gutted me it hurts me that people can cause so much pain to a poor little animal thanks guys for all advice you have given me so far

I'm sorry to hear this. Must be terribly upsetting for you. I'm glad you were able to take them from a bad situation. Sleep well little girls. :rose

I am so sorry for those poor girls and for you; at least they are not suffering anymore!

HOW can people do this to their pets?

I'm so sorry. I am glad you were able to take them away from the previous 'home', even if they were too ill to stay at their new one. Big hugs to you.

Rest well, little piggies. xx
