Hi and welcome,I leave pellets down allday plus hay, mine get their fruit and veggies in the evening,I am sure some other members can give you some more advice :)

Hi,Welcome to the wonderful world of guinea pigs---but be warned-they are addictive!.

Piggies are grazers so food should be available at all times.Like people, some eat more than others.Piggies do not overeat as they aare selective eaters. It is normally lack of excercise rather than too much food that makes piggies obese.Keep your piggies in as big a cage/pen as you can,and if possible, give them a run out every day.Quality hay,dry grass, water, and a dry mix should be available all the time. They need at least one good serving of mixed veggies per day. Some own ers give 2 servings of veggies per day, some even more. There is a link on this forum to good aand bad veggies. There is a large variety of safe veggies and herbs.Cucumber seems to be a top favouite, and kale, cabbage(green) celery, carrots, corn and leaves, chicory, parsley, coriander ,tomato, are just a few of the veggies my piggies enjoy.Give them as much variety as you can.

I cannot coment on the dry mix you mention as I have never used it.Maybe someone else can advise you on this.I use Chudley Rabbit Royale because it does not have any chemicals. It does not have vit.c but as my pigs get loads of fresh veg, this does not matter. There are a lot of mixes to choose from.,but try and find one that your piggies like that does not have any chemicals or colourants or molasses. Also check that the protien level is not more than 12%.

Enjoy your piggies, I know you will.

Mary

Don't worry too much. Lots of people on here feed the P@H nuggets and they're all fine. Its very confusing and quite scary when you first start out isn't it? The best thing to do is ask if you're not sure of anything even if you think the question is daft. Everyone here will be happy to help you. :)

Welcome to the forum :)

Some of my piggies are on P@H nuggets and I leave them there all day :)

hi :)
welcome to the forum and piggie owning! (they are soooooooooooooo lovely) :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
i feed my piggies on P@H nuggets, too which are left in their cages all day along with hay and of course water.
i then give them 2 small portions of fruit and veggies, 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening. they are fine weight and health wise, but make sure they get their exercise, as that is the biggest thing!
p.s. enjoy your piggie keeping! :D

12% is about the best level of protien for piggies, but then a lot of slaves do give their piggies mixes with higher levels and they seem to do fine on them.

Yes,it is very confusing when you are new because a lot of foods and even medications are controversial.,so each slave has to go with their own instinct as to what is right for their own piggies.I have been keeping piggies for over 20 years, and beleive me,I am still on a learning curve with them.

Having said that, the majority of piggies live long and healthy lives witrh little or no health problem. When things go wrong the help and support of these forums is wonderful.

You will soon become more confident and it sounds as if you are going to be a very responsible slave. Mary
