overweight?

We recently rehomed a piggie as companion to our 2 year old sow, Shimo, who had lost her best friend to cancer. It has worked out very well, and the girls seem very happy together. However, I could do with some suggestions on how to help Shimo shed a few pounds without limiting the food available to Roko, and to ensure both girls get all the nourishment they need. At the moment they have unlimited supa guinea pig excel, unlimited hay, and a bowl of fresh fruit and veg twice a day. On fine days they are out in a large run with lots of grass to eat and play on. Should I maybe think of changing their feed, upping their exercise, and if so how? Or are some piggies just inclined to be fatter? Help! :{
 
For me piggies are individual, some are chubbier than others the same as some are longer than others. My biggest piggy is 1.6kg, my smallest is just over 1kg :)
 
Yep, same here. My eldest piggies are just a year old and are around the 1kg mark (they will always be small piggies). Ben on the other hand, is just 9 months old and is he is 1.25kg. They all get the same food and exercise...it's all just down to the individual piggy...
 
Is there ever such a thing as an overweight piggy? I, myself have never seen one although i did think mine were overweight until i realised there were chubster piggies ( my last pig was an Abby and she was not a chubby piggy)...

Now i think that piggies dont get overweight?! And for some unfathomable reason they manage to burn off the stuff they are eating because it is good healthy food for them...
Maybe i shuld start living like a piggy! But then it might be unsociable to start pooping at my desk at work, and in the car, and in the shops...:)):)):))

:)) :)) :)) And there's the wheeking, brrring and rumble strutting & oh my you could do yourself an injury popcorning :)) :))
 
Yeah it might be a bit weird answering the phone with a "wheeeeeek... thank you for calling"!:))
 
When we first had Connie, she was a lot bigger than Eliza because there is about 10 weeks age difference between them. Connie was about 18 weeks old and Eliza about 8 weeks old. Now that they have grown up, Eliza is longer than Connie but Connie is chubbier than Eliza. They have the same amount to eat and the same amount of excise so I agree that its down to each individual pig.
 
Ooo and another thing i am amazed at how muscly my piggies feel despite looking chubby. They can still move like the wind and wriggle like anything!
 
You can get overweight piggies. We have an overweight rex. When she walks, the fat follows behind. Her skin in constantly dry as she doesn't groom herself properly as she can't reach her gland. Her metabolism is in someway linked to this. Swings and roundabouts I suppose.....she's fat because she doesn't groom...she can't groom because she's fat.

Thanks guys, yes she is lovely.

She's one of our rescues that will stay with us forever. Everyone always comments on how lovely she is but she's staying put.
