Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows how this fares calcium wise, is it low or high? I give my piggies a handful at night to share with their timothy hay. They are roughly 3 months old now but i think once they are 6 months old calcium has to be reduced? They are also on Oxbow Cavy Performance. I just dont want to make sure I'm not giving them more calcium than they really need as littlies as well as in the future.

Not sure where Orchard grass falls, calcium wise, but it can be free fed, just like timothy hay, mine really love it. Alfalfa hay is the only type of hay I know of to be high in calcium and needs to be very limited or removed from their diet once they're over 6 months old.

Yeah mine love the orchard grass too, its like piggy crack lol..They just starting to get more into hay now and the orchard grass is definitely a winner. Havn't tried them on the alfalfa hay as there is alfalfa/lucerne in their pellets which is probably enough.

I saw that on the United Kingdom version of Amazon and I was going to get it for Choc as he is a fussy little git I decided that maybe not with other people is any pics seem to like it maybe he'll like it to even if he is a fussy sod

Never met a pig that didn't like Orchard grass Maddy

According to The Hay Expert website it says it's low in calcium so can be free fed..
However I can't give it to Toast anymore as it makes her extremely bloaty and makes her bladder issues worse, and Beans only gets a handful a day mixed in with their normal hay.

It seems to be a lot of piggies favourite hay, they go crazy for it :))

If it's possible for choc to refuse to eat it he will refuse to eat it

There's a hay expert website?

Last night they came charging for it as soon as I put their dish down, thought I was going to lose my hand. It's the first time they have done that with hay.

I wouldn't recommend Orchard Grass hay - it gave one of my guinea pigs bladder problems and both of my guinea pigs also got the runs when I get it to them. It's expensive but I just threw it out after a few days of trying it. I didn't like to donate it to anyone else since it had such a bad effect on mine. I wish I'd never bought it as the one with bladder issues is still suffering now and he was loads better before he had the orchard grass hay. I feel really guilty that I bought it.

Green Oat Hay is good, some Timothy and Meadow Hay.

ive not had any problems with this hay ,either myself or illness with the cavies,I'm sure though you need to heed the above comments,i only give a handful 3 times a week between four piggies,as a treat.Oat hay from timothy hay co.uk was very well recieved by my 23 piggies !:)

I'm not quite sure why I need to heed anything. I'm telling anyone who is interested what happened with my guinea pigs. I don't recall saying I filled their cage with Orchard Grass or anything like that. I use Meadow Hay as the basic hay pile and give them Oat/Timothy in a handful night and morning as a top up. I was doing that with the Orchard. It made my guinea pigs ill. Therefore in a thread about it I feel entitled to comment and say this. I'm also not the only one who says in the thread that it caused bladder/digestive issues.

Sorry i did not mean to cause any offence,i just meant to be careful that others had problems .despite that i had.ive not read the thread properly:soz:
