Firstly, I do apologise if this sounds cheeky! I have been wanting to try my pigs that need daily vit c at the moment on the Oxbow tablets for a while, but they are very expensive if they don't like them. I was wondering if anyone could possibly send me approx 3 (I have 3 pigs), and I would send you some money for postage and towards the cost of the tablets? I just have a bad feeling that I won't be able to get all 3 to take them voluntarily. At the moment I'm syringing the Biocare Vitasorb vit C drops, and they don't like the taste, but it's easy enough to get down them.

Would be very grateful, if someone wouldn't mind doing this for me. :)

hi sorry i dont have any of those but i put vit c tablets into my piggies water so it disolves and they dont really know much difference?

are you giving them vit c supplements because they are ill? they should really get all of their vit c from their food.

you shouldn't be putting anything into their drinking water because:

1) they should not need any extra if they eat a good variety of veg, and plenty of hay

2) it evaporates very quickly out of the water so your not actually giving them much vitamin c from it, and it makes the water taste funny.

the only time they need extra vit c is if they are pregnant, or ill and unable to eat their usual diet :)

Yes, I'm asking specifically about these Oxbow tablets, not about whether I should be using vitamin C or not. ;)

I think the Oxbow ones are extortionate... I just use low-dose human ones (with no sweetener) from the pharmacy.

On no account should piggies be given Vit C to dissolve in water (the human kind). It has an artificial sweetener that is a very strong laxative.

I agree - ridiculously priced. :o I can't seem to find a human brand that isn't chock full of nasty sweeteners at the moment. I have a pill cutter, so no problem with cutting them up to get the dosage right. What brand do you use, DSL?

It's a generic version from my local pharmacy - el cheapo ones! It's 100mg vit C, no sweeteners (it does have some sugar but that's preferable to artificial stuff that gives them the runs). I give them half a tablet if anyone is ill.

Thanks! :) I'll have a scout round the small local chemists. I don't mind paying for cheap ones and they don't like them - it's the price of the Oxbow ones that makes me dither!
