i got my two guinea pigs from p@h 3 weeks ago and was told at the time that they were both sows, however over the last few days 1 has started trying to mate with the other so i had a look at them both this morning and two my total shock 1 is a boar, i have had to rehome him with a local rescue group as i couldnt house him seperatly, the sow seems ok since he has left but I'm worried that she mite be pregnant, can anybody tell me what i can do to help her if she is expecting, I'm guessing that she will need extra veggies and things but is there a supliment i can get for her

sorry about your predicament.

You will receive lots of info here, in the meantime, you might want to read the stickies dealing with pregnant piggies.

I personally don't know much as I have 2 boars.rolleyes

PS: welcome!

Welcome to the forum!

There is a special pregnancy and labour section of the forum under guinea pig care. You should find lots of useful info in there.

Sorry for the situation you're in. Sadly, pet shops are notorious for not sexing animals correctly. I think it's because they sell young animals which are more difficult to sex.

I'm really upset about having to let the little guy go today but the lady who i took him to seemed lovely and I'm sure he will be fine, is there any chance that my remaining pig is going to pine for her mate or does it not work like that with guineas?:{:{

Keep any documentation you had from when you brought her (if you still have it) and then at least if she needs the vets or any babies need a vet then you can claim the costs from P@H, probably the last thing you want to think of right now though

where did you take him? if you don't mind me asking.

i found her through preloved, gave her a call and she was more than happy to take him for me, she mite even be on here, but I'm new to all this forum stuff and still working it out :(|):(|)

Yes we do have a Julie from Warrington on the forum.

I hope you stick around and let us know how your Sow goes on -

P&H pow-pow

OMG I joined this forum because I NEEDED genuine help and advice about the 1 guinea pig that we have.
I genuinely spoke to a "advisor" at P@H who informed me that I COULD NOT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES have another boar because they would fight!
I find it so sad that so many people go to this MASSIVE pet shop, expecting to get genuine and expert advice. But instead people are misinformed and ill advised and as a result there are thousands of poor animals around the UK suffering because of paying the minimum wage to younger people.
Is it me on my soap box or does anybody else agree with me here??
And I would like to add that everybody on here has been extremely welcoming and I feel completely at ease at ask any questions... and i would get a genuine and honest answer!:)>>>

yeah i am going to stay on here as the info and other guinea lovers seem great, i am worried about my Sow and feel really let down by P@H, i own a rabbit and have always had them but i really fell in love with guineas ans feel like ive stumbled at the 1st hurdle,
sorry if i seem whingy but i get very atatched to my pets

You cannot kick yourself because somebody else has made a mistake!
I take my hat off to you because you are trying to seek genuine advice my friend. I am just so sorry I can not be more help to you. Please stick with it on here. I am sure that a couple of the more experienced owners will help you.
Best of luck xoxo

HI.
Ive had the same from p&h. I fell in love with my Boofle cos she just cuddled right in when I held her. They gave me all the garb about not putting her with my other females blah blah. Few days after I bought her home I felt movements in her tum.
I complained to P&H. And the manager from the store I bought her from was total sh**. Dont listen to what they have to say in store. Ring up head office on Monday or whenever you can. The likelyhood of your little lady being pregnant is very high. The lady I spoke to on the phone was brilliant. And admitted that ther staff need more training.
Id love a job there I know a darn site more than any of that lot do.

You will get some excellent advice from here. I class these ladies and the odd chap to be good freinds even though we've never met.
Good luck. And if she is pregnant, you just wait till they arrive. They are ADORABLE. I kept both Boofles Babies, and they are both healthy bundles of total and utter loonie toon madness.

I will say as well. I got my first 2 pigglies in September last year. Bought Boofs In Dec I think and 23rd Jan she gave birth. I sexed both of the babies up within 3 days. And I am a amature guinea pigglie owner. If I can do it WHY CANT THE STAFF AT P&H. Its not hard.

i spoke to P@H head office yesterday and they said that sometimes mistakes happen and that they were very sorry for what had happened, however because ive had the pigs for over a week they wudnt take her back,
Well for 1 thing i *** never get rid of her as she is my total sweetheart and i love her dearly, if she is pregnant i will give her the best care that i can, it would b lovely if she had only babie sows as i would keep them hehehe, i really hope she isnt pregnant though

Thats not a good enough answer. If shes pregnant, they need to do something for you as it is their fault they missexed. Id carry it on further.mallethead

Well thats what my partner has said, I'm not very good with confrontation but he is lol, I'm going to see how she goes on and if i need anything for her then my partner is going to get in touch with them and have a few words

I would definatly. I'm not one for confrontation either. But Boofle was only a baby herself and I was freaking out. The girls on here will tell you, I was a worry pot till she had them.
It was such a beautiful sight too see when I came down one morning to see two extra faces looking out at me. And they are so funny. All heads and feet but adorable with it.
I managed to have my vet bill paid and I got a big cage from them as well. All for nothing. Right letters, email and ring. Its not fair on you as a responsible owner to be let down by people that should bloody well know better.
And dont forget. If she is preggers and has boys, you have got to remove them at three weeks, as they can make her or any sisters pregnant again. I had to take Bumble out at 2 weeks 3 days as hed started to hump. DIRTY BOY. Id say the last week leading up to the third week keep a watchful eye.lol
If you can get something from p&h get a cage cos you wont have anywhere to put the boars.

ive just showed my partner what you have said and he totally agrees with you, he hadnt thought about getting something like a hutch for any babies, thankyou for the advice and info x>>x>>

Oh your very welcome. Ive been there. And I'm letting you on to a little secret. You WONT want to let them go. I wanted all girls. But I also wanted a black pigglie and The male Bumble was black. I couldnt let them go. They are just tooo cute.

Were the pigglies together in the shop when you got them. And did they tell you how old they were
Sorry I'm just being nosey.
If I dont reply its cos Ive gone to feed my youngest son. Hes complaing hes hungry AGAIN. LOL

Add me on fb if you want to. Debbie Cross. Photo is with my bestie and I have a green jacket on.

the pigs were the last two in the shop, i was told that they were both female and that they were 8weeks old,
i *** use fb as I'm a total technophobe lol, I'm very pleased with myself for getting around on here lol
