Hi all.

I know most of you don't get any hay from P@H, but thought I'd post this anyway. Just wondering if any of you that do get P@H hay, whether the latest batch you bought was different. We've just bought one and it appears to be full of straw as well, with very little Hay.

Just wondering...in relation to the post...can I ask why people dont get their hay from p@h?
I get mine from a local garden center so I'm just curious really

I do get p@h hay but really struggle with it - i often end up throwing a full bag away because it's just horrid! Me & my hubby have now taken to going in to p@h & rummaging through all the bags until we find a nice one - people think we're mental - especially when we try to smell if it's sweet or not :))

W've never had a problem with they hay bought from there before. The boys love it usually. This batch doesn't seem to be as nice for them, they're just pulling it out and using it to lay on

had similar problem. The last bag I bought was very coarse and the boys just would not eat it. They'd do their business on it and that wa it... Stopped buying their hay altogether. My boys are fussy and only eat Readigrass and Scratch and Newton hay (from P@H).

I try not to buy from P@H or anywhere that sells animals, I choose to buy my animal feed and supplies from a local feed merchant instead. I buy horse hay by the bale, it does vary in quality but it's generally good and better than the pet shop stuff.

Having said that I recently got donated some of the dandelion hay from pets at home and the piggies loved it!

I buy P@H hay and I agree, I had noticed too that the hay looks very different from the last stuff we got, very strange :^-

i've bought a couple of bags online from them and both have what looked like burnt bin liners in and wire (like old fashioned coat hangers), so i will NEVER try it again

Ive found p@h hay a bit dodgy sometimes also the last time i boughth some from wilkinsons it was like straw i tend to buy from my local pet shop which sells lovely sweet smelling meadow hay the my little friend hay is nice to i also rummage through bags to find the best one lol

I used to buy it but never thought it was very good. I now try to buy only from places that don't sell animals. There is a small pet supply store in my local town and I get the hay that they sell plus Excel Herbage for them to eat.

I got P@H hay before and my girls didn't seem to mind it. They're fussy eaters but not when it comes to hay. I get mine from the range now though as they like it and it's only £3.99 for an XL bag

I to am a pets at home hay rummager but this last bag was really poor, they are not impressed at all, so I am going to try and find some different for them, the wilkinsons hay is no better. grrr @ bad hay

It could well be, the two P@H nearest to me ran out of hay altogether for a few weeks, which is why I got some wilkinsons stuff. I think they are struggling to get hold of it

i used to get my hay from wilkos, but again it seems to be all straw these days.. i also pull out all the bags and look to see which one has less straw in!
went to p@h few days ago to get some thinking it might be better quality, but it wasnt. using the wilkos stuff for bedding and bought some very posh (and expencive!) hay by Excel for pig to eat! shop sold hay is no where near the quality of hay that is made on farms! only thing i can think of is that their bulking it up with straw. twas a bad season last year for the silage and hay, so maybe there's not that much around..

I'm wondering if its the bad weather we've had lately as I've noticed that some of mine has been a little on the dry side?

sorry to post again..
they make that hay a year before to dry it out, but last year it was too wet to take the tractors up to fields to cut it, heard many stories about tractors slipping down fields! (live in wales so lots of farmer round by me!) so the grass couldnt be cut and quite alot of crops were ruined. therefor less hay.

i have never used P@H hay cos it never looks very nice, i use Canac meadow hay which i get from a shop called Waterworld (dont know if they are a chain or just the one shop) but the hay is pretty good, around a fiver for 3KG and my piggies love it (although the naughty bun just WONT eat it!)

i only use hay from www.dustfreehay.co.uk. its got the lovliest smell and piggies only like this - also no dust so its lovely.

i buy the 10 bales, it works out good price as its last for ages and is good quality.

my pigs got lice from P@H hay and i think its horrible cheap stuff. Would never by hay from them again.

Is there any where you can buy just the one bag of this?

you can do 2 bales http://www.dustfreehay.co.uk/cost4.html.

the top one for £17.99 although its quite expensive really, its better buyign in bulk, you can get 5 bales worth too. is there any way you could store it somewhere?

Unfortunately not, the spare guinea pig cages, food & toys etc. have already taken up most of the space.... will have to try and find some though...

Does the 5 bale take up an awful lot of space?

its not that badf, its about a metre across and 70cm height, but thats me guessing! do you have any spare room under your bed(s)?

If i didnt know what we were talking about, these could be some very random personal questions hehe! My bed is about 2 inches from the floor, so the only thing we can fit under there is books.

I'm glad you are so persistant though, must be good stuff. Will have to have a car boot sale soon!

Thats the hay that I use :)p I buy mine from The Range and it's £3.99 for a large bag xx

Just found out by looking at the website, that this firm is ten minutes drive from me, so I have emailed to see if they sell from the premises, I could collect. Thanks for the useful link.

There is a "The Range" in southport where my grandma is from so will get hay from there next time I see her !
