I've been critical about Pets at Home the store chain, this time its a well done and I share why,
My VIP Vouchers came other day and the little mag is very informative , let's be clear piggies tho sold at the stores come down the order when mags and offers are on, doggies and cats take pride but thats understandable.
This time I shall say well done and I will email them saying so

Well done I say, we friends again lol

We got a piggy from pets at home a few days before Christmas due to an acute pining episode. The 6 weeks vet cover is true but quite complicated.
Not all p@h’s have a vet that will look at your piggies, our p@h didn’t. Unluckily, our piggy had a very persistent URI which came out after a week of two of owning him. Because p@h didn’t have a vet, we had to jump through a lot of hoops so to speak. There was only one vet practice we were able to use that they would accept under the 6 weeks and it was a non exotic vet (a Vets4pets) and then we had to have the receipt seen and approved by the manager. We also had to have this approved before getting an appointment at the vet. The antibiotic given didn’t work and so we had to take Sprout to our exotic vet anyway to get something that would clear the URI due to its persistence. They wouldn’t cover this as it wasn’t the Vets4Pets. It’s good they offer the cover, but I imagine a lot of the time it doesn’t get used even when the pet does get sick.
Another thing is that they also gave us a leaflet about guinea pigs. Some info was good, but there were about 2 or 3 things that were wrong or misleading. I can’t remember what though and I don’t think we have the leaflet still.
Something I thought was good though was that they seemed to not sell piggies to be singles. So they asked if we already had a guinea pig and we said yes. They then let us rehome just one (what was left in the cage was a trio, I believe they will never split up the remaining 2) however they didn’t require any evidence or pictures as proof that we had other piggies, they just took our word for it. I was quite shocked actually at how easy it was to buy a live animal.

I understand your frustration and sadly you seemed messed about,
I've had some little runins with p@h and comment on them, , ,but not all is bad so I give them a star this time,
Hope your piggie is ok.

Definitely, the 6 week vet cover is huge a plus. It made me feel more confident about buying from them, but like any company they will try and get out of paying when they can. I was really impressed though at how things have improved in their guinea pig advice too along with not rehoming piggies to live as singles. Things could use improvement but it’s all a step in the right direction.
Our piggy is doing well, thank you! He was on antibiotics for a month, we were worried with him being so young (10 weeks old at that time) but he’s doing well! :)

Great news about your piggie,
Any improvement on any scale to help animals is worth a mention, , I started to use a local independent pet shop for things, it is horrible and I can't return as we have different views on animals etc, , but thats another story,
Heres two of mine having tea,
