Anyone else been into a P@H and seen reduced treats and snacks?

I don't have a local one but my brother now works in Boston, Lincolnshire, at the weekend and there's one there so yesterday I went into town with my mum before we picked him up.

Walked round, nothing obvious was wrong, apart from the amount of pigs being crammed into the 'adoption' centre part (males in a group of 5 included), and their reason for bottles looking green was because of ProC? I have no idea about that but bottles that are green usually means algae but seeing as they're inside a building, I don't know how much of a problem that is so maybe it's ProC, like I said no idea, maybe someone else can clarify? (If anyone wants more details about the pigs, just ask!)

Anyway! So mum and I were walking round and we saw some reduced treats, the Natural Woodland ones or something? I don't get store bought treats for mine so I don't know names, but they were reduced to 50p, I said I'd get mine some as a one off, until mum checked the date and they were weeks out of date. Can't remember the date exactly but I think it was July/August.

The treats were http://www.petsathome.com/wcsstore/...ontAssetStore/images/products/large/24462.jpg and http://www.petsathome.com/wcsstore/...ontAssetStore/images/products/large/24511.jpg

I said to my mum that it can't be that risky as it's dried stuff, not fresh fruit or something, but I wanted to ask others who may know more about them as I don't buy these types of things normally, is this risky for animals or not?

I could go again next weekend if I ask my mum nicely lol, so I could have a look again for some more.

I wouldn't risk it, it's not really worth possibly making a piggie sick just because the treats are cheap? If it says 'best before' then its probably alright for them to eat just wont taste very nice, but if it says 'use by' I would def not feed them to any living thing.

I would spend the 50p on some nice new veg or fruit that they have never tried before I bet they'd be much happier with that!

I don't trust pets at home at all, not 1% - let them throw the out of date treats in the bin!

I use ProC regularly in the drinking water of my boarding customers, and it does tend to make the water look a bit murky/dirty looking with a slight greenish tinge (the powder itself is a blue/green colour), but I wouldn't say the bottle looks 'green'.

It bothered me too because that day I'd spent only about £2.50 on some veg for my lot (4 bell peppers, some parsley and mixed baby leaves), much nicer than a load of seeds and dry tat!

Thanks for the clarification on the ProC stuff :) though none of the bottles looked green or had a green tinge in the water, that I saw.

I've not had too much trouble with P@H YET haha, the Bexhill one doesn't often seen to have things reduced though. I brought pack of squigle food and forage, that was down to £1 as the outer box was crushed, the bag inside was fine.

Some piggies are tougher then others, some would be fine eating it, where as others might not be. If you don't feel confident don't buy them :)

I'm a bexhillian too. I find P@H generally ok here, However thats apart from when they had a serverly poorly pig taken in to them over the last bank holiday ( it had been dumped like the others my story in the Newspaper was about) they cleaned its eyes and then didnt bother with it, needless to say it died, even though they have a vet literally 2 mins across the road. So i will not buy anything from them now! Far too many animals are suffering at the hands of pets shops, regardless of wether they bought the animals in or not, they still have a duty of care!

Oh cool! :)

Yeah, the only problem I had was with a piggie I wanted to buy. Just as I was making a fuss of it (looking over it as you do ;) ) I noticed a bald dry patch, which the manage reckoned was ringworm, although he thought it was a Rex, when it was actually a Rosette. I kept phoning to see how he was doing, and a week after they said that the test results weren't back yet, although in the store they'd said they'd get him to the vets the next day, and the results come back in a couple of days mallethead I gave up in the end, personally I wouldn't be surprised if he died :'( I'd even named him!

Personally I prefer to buy my lot their treats from the supermarket reduced fruit and veg dept. They certainly enjoy those more and much better for them. :)
