Does anyone know what this could be. I was grooming Paddy Bear just before and I noticed that his left nipple is slightly swollen and looks as though it's filled with fluid, I wiped it carefully and it leaked some white-ish fluid (possibly pus), it seems sore and he didn't like me touching it. I've booked him in at the vets tomorrow morning to find out what it is, but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds to me like he could have mastitis or possibly an abscess. Sending lots of healing vibes!

Sorry for poor photos, it was hard to hold him and take a photo at the same time lol.

I managed to gently squeeze the clear liquid out and the swelling went down in size. It started to ooze blood though, so I stopped then and have just keep the area as clean as possible. He seems a little more comfortable now. I hope to God that it's just an infection. I'll keep you all updated after our vets appointment tomorrow.

Keep us informed .... sending lots of love healing vibes your way Paddy Bear!

Update:

I took Paddy to the exotics vet this afternoon and both she and I believe that he has a tumour, the vet said it could even be cancer. I'm devastated. She had a good feel of the lump, gland areas and all over his tummy, and checked his mouth etc. She noted that his other nipples were quite large for a male but as far as I'm aware they've always been that size. She's recommended having the lump removed and sent to Pathology to see what it is. There is a chance that it's just a benign tumour and that once removed he could make a full recovery and live for a couple more years quite happily, as according to the vet despite the lump he is in otherwise good condition and is only young (3 years old), but obviously there is also the chance that it could be cancer and if so the operation alone wouldn't save him from any future tumours. She has given him some anti-biotics (to treat any infection) and anti-inflammatory (to reduce the size and growth of the lump) which we've to take for a week or so.

So i'm now faced with the decision of whether to put him through surgery or not. I would like to give him the chance to have the lump removed and at least be comfortable for the time being, but equally I'm scared of the cost of it all as I'm in financial dire straits at the moment and also whether he'd survive the surgery and recovery itself. I'm going to save up for it over the next week and hopefully get him booked in for the op the week after next and just pray that he survives and it's benign.

Has anyone else ever faced this situation?

Please send your prayers and healing vibes for my beautiful boy. x

Oh no. Poor Paddy Bear and poor you. Sending you virtual hugs as you make this decision for him xx

I don't have experience with a mammory tumour, but my past neutered male had a lump on his belly, I made the decision to operate and remove it, as his was fast growing. At the time, he was 3, like your boy. He made it through the operation very well with no complications, got two girlfriends and lived happily for another 2 years, he was almost 5 1/2 years old when he passed(he is the white and grey one, on the left in my avatar picture).

Thanks everyone. I've decided to go for the surgery, but will need to save up for it, so I could only put him through it the week after next at the earliest. So fingers crossed the lump doesn't grow much between now and then, and that he survives the op. He's a bit stressed from the vets visit today but apart from that he's doing everything as normal, so fingers crossed he'll be ok for another week or so.

Awww sending you hugs. I would definitely give him a chance. Unfortunately we had to have our little fudge pts a last Monday she had a big tumour on her belly and another coming up on her neck but she was 6yrs old and we didn't think it fair to put her through an op but if she was the age of your little one then I would have definitely gave her a chance. I do think your doing the right thing xx

So sorry to hear of your loss. Thank you for your kind words, I'm keeping everything crossed for my little boy, I'll get him booked in asap for the op.

Sending healing vibes and lots of love your way Drezella and hop your little boy comes through OK xx:nod:

I've never dealt with a tumor but mine had to have an abscess removed a little over a year ago, at two years old. He did very well. Also, in the US we have something called CareCredit, which is a credit card that you can use for medical expenses, including for animals. Before I got Midnight I made sure I had that as a backup in case I was ever in financial distress. It certainly came in handy with his surgery. Credit cards aren't for everybody, but it's certainly something to consider. Another huge thing I learned was to make sure you have Oxbow Critical Care on hand after his surgery. I'm hoping for the best, and a complete recovery!

I had a boar with a mammary tumour. We opted for the operation as it was leaking clear fluid and a bit of blood so we didn't want him to get an infection.

The operation went fine, it didn't come back and it was benign (it was sent off to the tested).

Fingers crossed the same happens for your little one.

Thanks everyone

Just another update: Paddy Bear's surgery is booked for Friday 26th May at 10:20 am please send all your healing thoughts and prayers to him on that day. I'm praying that it goes well.
