Drezella
Adult Guinea Pig
Just for anyone that's interested, here's how we got on today. Day 5
Tonight I gave the boys their second floor time. They were nervous at first when I put them on the floor (in their houses) but eventually I managed to tempt them out with veggies. They kept making strange noises at each other (which you might be able to hear on the videos), which I think is them arguing? (if anyone knows what these noises mean please let me know, because I'm not well up on Piggie language yet). If one of them is in a bed then they don't like it if the other joins them. Paddy in particular chatters his teeth and wiggles his bum at Rowen. So there was a bit of that going on, but also some exploring. Paddy ventured out the furthest, but I was also really proud of Rowen for following him around and even going off on little ventures on his own.
I held Paddy and had a quick cuddle using the towel again, he was a good boy. I also managed to give him a quick brush (with a soft bristle brush) but then he got a bit stressed so I had to put him down again. Rowen on the other hand panicked when I picked him up, he settled for a moment whilst I held him, but then ran up my shoulder, so mum had to get hold of him. I couldn't get hold of him again to give him a brush, so I'll try again another day. I put the boys back in and gave them a bit of carrot to reward them. They are happy and settled again now.
I'll keep trying to handle them little by little, especially Rowen as he is really skittish and nervous. I always use a bed to pick him up in, but even that is hard work as he moves around when you try to pick him up out of it and if you gently tip him out, he runs off. :/ Hopefully with time I'll get better at handling them, because I don't want them to feel stressed and scared. Plus Rowen's white coat is getting a bit dirty so they'll need a bath and their nails clipping in the near future. I'll definitely have to get a more experienced owner to help me out with that.
