Adult Guinea Pig
I can't believe it's been a whole week since these little beauties came into my life. I already feel so attached that I couldn't imagine life without them, I look forward to getting home from work so that I can see them and get them out for floor time and cuddles
This may be the last update for a while as I'm conscious of flooding the forum, unless people would like me to continue updating on a daily basis.
I think the boys were expecting floor time today as they came out when we were eating our tea and were eating their hays and pellets, and they were much easier to catch. Paddy was already in the strawberry so I just lifted the bed out onto the floor and then he came out, and Rohan went in it when I put the bed back in, so I was able to lift him out gently too.
The boys were a little more reserved during floor time as mum was with us sitting with us, and they aren't as used to her, so I think they were a bit more timid, but I was really proud of them for coming out and exploring and approaching her. They are getting bolder with their adventures exploring the different nooks and crannies in the kitchen. (I keep a close eye on them to make sure that they are safe), and exploring further afield.
Cuddle time was a bit stressful though, as I tried to pick Rohan up and I had hold of him, but then he wriggled free and I dropped him. I was mortified. He was completely fine, he landed on a towel and padded strawberry bed, and I only had him about half a foot off the floor, so he's not injured. I've checked him, and he's running around now and doing everything as normal, but I felt absolutely awful. My poor sausage. Mum managed to get hold of him and had a cuddle, then I had a cuddle with him and he calmed down and seemed reasonably happy. I stroked him between his eyes. Paddy was a bit more skittish today, but let us both cuddle him and I gave him a rub between the eyes too. He was very vocal today, making lots of little noises to Rohan. We let them both go again and then went off exploring again in the kitchen. After floor time I gave them both a piece of carrot which they wolfed down. So hopefully it won't have been an awful experience for them. I feel so guilty.
I'll definitely have to get better at catching them, I find the initial getting hold of them difficult as they are so quick and wiggle around. I use the bed technique to scoop them up, but then getting hold of them afterwards is where the difficulty lies, any tips? I'll keep practicing so that I can get better for my boys.
