Now summer is fast approaching how many of you have got padlocks on your hutch doors? I do not want to scare people but you never know who is about at night and I have now got padlocks on the outdoor hutches. Last year I heard someone had thier piggies stolen from the hutch. Now mine are out of sight and my back gate is locked but after hearing about a few poor animals I decided to get the locks put on ALL the doors. Something for you all to think about doing to protect our much loved piggies.

I haven't got padlocks, but it is something I've thought of. There are some dodgy goins on in this area at times

Yep mums are full of great ideas ^_^ This one has her moments anyway :p eh mum ;) O0

I have a lock on the shed and the garden gate is lock and key, and I have a Staffordshire bull terrier who barks if the wind changes direction.

It is a rather good idea, I mean people could find out you have gorgeous little piggies and steal them for themselves or even other purposes, which aint too nice :(:(:(:(

Yep thats why I have done it never know whos lurking in the middle of the night.

She has a brain wave you see ;)

Eugh I would hate a person with a BIG snake to get hold of ANY piggie. :(:( Or Any other animal! And I would hate to see chewed up guinea pigs guts on the garden if a fox, cat birds crows got hold of our little gorgeous piggies!

when my evil brother last year, took out my piggies from the hutch and put them on the trampoline, i thought about it.

You buy padlock hooks to then put a padlock through those ;)

My Pigs are in in the shed, not on cages or anything they have a big run which is like half the shed space which they live in, i always padlock that, when i lived at my old house in summer when they played out I used to padlock the run of their roof down to the cage too as there were loads of kids around.

I would recommend padlocks my in-laws have 18 ferrets and they went through a stage last year of kids going into the garden at night and just letting them out >:( Most of the ferrets stayed within the garden but one of them disappeared for a week :'(

They did find him in the end after putting posters up a chap found him hiding in a shed a couple of streets away

They now have higher walls padlocked gates & hutches!

My gate is always padlocked too. But next door has a very low fence anyone could get over it. In the height of summer I have gaint sunflowers there to keep the nosey next door from looking in during the holidays.

My shed and my two bunny hutches are all padlocked day and night. Better to be safe then sorry.

I shall be buying a padlock at the weekend before I put my boys back in their hutch.

I had them out late last week but have been bringing them in because it's too cold for them at night here still. I havn't been putting them outside during the day this week as it's still too cold on a morning and wasn't sure if it would gret much warmer before work..

Annnnnnnnyway.. I came in from work last night to find the hutch door open. My garden is secure. The only thing that could have opened that hutch is the pesky cats >>>>>>> cat lovers please do not read on!

I was furious and watched out for it that night. Found it at 7.30 sitting above my hutch on my fence. I already have a vendetta against this puss for pooing on my lawn and digging my beds and bringing his 'finds' to my garden. I squirted him with my hose!

I don;t like cats either.

We have put higher fences up and solid gates with deadlocks - our back garden used to be open at the back and a big dog used to poo on the lawn, plus we found some caps from a gun by George's hutch one day (little turds, fancy firing a cap gun at a bunny). We don;t have padlocks but the hutches are fox proof we think...

talking of cats, thats one reason i got rid of my aviary because the damn things kept sitting on top etc and freaking my camaries and finches etc out,and constantly pooing around it

ive just locked my shed for the night, ive not locked it in ages just closed it up as we have a sensor light etc round the back and the neighbours sleep in the back anyway with their windows open so listen out for anything for me

i have a two story hutch with a lift up lid, so any ideas on how to padlock this? do i need 3 padlocks? Also have a second hutch with a lift up lid, how do you padlock them.

My padlocks are to stop humans opening them and stealing the contents or killing them sick people in this world you know.

You can buy hook catches to fix it down but a fox could knock them off best bet is to nail it shut. I have one hutch in the shed like that and will be nail it shut if it goes out side. I clean out from the doors no need to lift the top up ;)

Or you could buy padlock hooks and put one on the lip of the roof and one on the front of the hutch annd padlock it if you get what i mean.

I cleaned my two story hutch out today and noticed another thing on it that will need sorting out before I put it outside. The bottom on it comes out for cleaning. Anybody that has a hutch where the bottom comes out will need to put bolts underneath to stop preditors getting in or nail it down. Not sure which hutch mine is I got it second hand but it looks like sage hall that they sell in p@h.

yes i have the same one, and i',m going to secure the bottom before the piggies go out in may.
will need 3 padlocks for the hutch too.one for the lift up roof, and one for each level on the doors.
