has any of you noticed any PAH stores having a vet in store as I was reading a local paper from where i use to live in Essex my brother brought over and noticed they have a vet instore 7 days a week, its called the companion care surgery ?

I saw that sometimes the PDSA send out vans for people to take down their pets to the P@H stores. Think it was just a few stores in England.

Yes Michelle, the Romford branch has a full vet service as does the Beckton one (at the A406/A13 roundabout junction) They seem pretty expensive and I don't think they are that great.

as the PAH on the island is being built quite near to my vets hospital I was wondering if they would have one,

There is one in one of the Norwich stores, it is the only vets I will use and cant fault them. They are in fact so busy that they have just expanded adding another consultation room on 8), probably from all the people I send their way ;D

We haven't got one in our local store and even if we did I wouldn't personally dream of using it. The only exception being if it really were the only one for miles and miles around...which thankfully in our case it wouldn't be.

Just my own personal thoughts....

seems some like some dont, will have to wait and see if they do have one in our new store, but as our vets are going to be about a 10 minute walk from them on same road should be interesting

I dont think any of the money goes to [email protected] I understand it is an entirely seperate company, just with a surgery in the store.
I suppose its a good thing if it makes people take their animals to the vets more promptly.

My local store (Swindon) has a vet in it also called Companion Care. Apparently they are a independantly managed subsidiary of PAH. According to the website there are 35 Companion Cares across the UK of which some are located in PAH stores. The vet are open 7 days per week and provide 24 hours emergency cover..... To be honest, the one inside the Swindon store always looked nice enough - from what you can see from the store. Not that I have been in their recently. I stopped using PAH a while ago now.

Yeah i use them! lol they have nothing to do with PAH they are two seperate companies and our vet doesnt agree wiv PAH at all lol x

pity they dont have a vet in store at the Kayes pet centre in nottingham, the piggies in there at the mo look really ill,and theyre in with huge rabbits too,the piggies are only babies...
it upset me to see them all looking really ill and weak when we went in today

They used to have one at the store near me, Edinburgh but it closed ages ago. I never used it don't know anyone who did!

did you not say anything to them I'd have ripped thier heads off and called the RSPCA right in front of them >:( >:(

Don't get me started lol! I have one in my local store in devon, and i changed to it from my other vet when they opened because my other vet was only available about 2 hours a day, you had to wait for a week or more for an appoitment so i thought it couldn't be any worse... Well my vet is sooo great, he knows me by name, he offers me 'mates rates' to save me money, he does free tests and injections sometimes for me, and i have always always got in on the day i wanted an appointment, i would phone up on the day and get in that day, and boy have i been there a lot unfortunately, and even once i didn't look well so he was just as worried about sorting me out as he was my animal, can anyone claim a better vet? :D

that is disgusting I'd report them as you have photographic proof, its such a shame good pet shops gets lumped with bad pet shops and it ruins it for the good ones I know for 100% fact my fav pet shop would have taken the piggy to the vets and would probably have ended up keeping him herself, and she would never ever have sold him like that, if it was a local pet shop to me that did that I would gone over there and made a very vocal complaint right outsdie,
but well done you on getting Brian ( my dads name) so well,

well if youre up for it and have the photo's as proof then we could report them,Ill do it if you will and Hils might just back us up and anyone else in nottingham
that shop has already been fined ages ago for having a monkey in unacceptable living conditions,we need to sort it out,I'm still not happy about the pigs we left behind in there over xmas,I have a bad feeling they wouldve either died by now or will be in a worse state
if I had the money I wouldve bought them as there were only 4 left,Holly and Bell came from there and were left to run with the boys >:(
the times we've been in and the birds they have in there are underweight etc and beaten up,the fish are floating dead sometimes in the tanks,if people with no knowledge of animals just go in and buy anything they like the look of at the time then theyre either gonna have them die on them or itll cost a fortune to have them treated

i think its time the RSPCA had a call ;)

if it was a local pet shop to me that did that I would gone over there and made a very vocal complaint right outsdie,

I made my feelings known that his injuries/illness were disgusting and after much discussion I took him home, free of charge I might add to begin getting him well. Originally he was only supposed to stay whilst we got him well, then I was going to rehome him but he just never left ;)

I have had Brian 2 years this June, so a long while now but if you want to use these photos that's fine with me... I will add though that you would only have my word, plus a friends that he came from there as I no longer have the paperwork for him sorry :-[

In my opinon, this guinea pigs condition and the pet shop concerned should have been reported to the RSPCA immediately.

I hope that those who are aware of what is happenning in this shop wil have the courage to do something about it. Taking animals from places like this whether paid for not, will not stop animals from being neglected and abused futurewise. I can understand why people do it, but don't let it stop there, take matters further.

Please, those of you who are in a position to do so...do something to stop this abuse. For the animals sake.
Places like this are sickening.

Barbara

I'm hoping when the PAH opens on the Isle of wight it does'nt get as bad as some i have heard about becasue I can and will be a bitch and pain in their ass if I see one animal ill treated and luckly my vets hospital is right down the end of their road and I do have some wonderful vets who would most definatly back me up, so come on PAH do your worst, I'm ready and willing and just about able ( on a good day) to take you on and I know I have all your backing, I really really HATE shops like this giving ALL pet shops bad press,

I cant understand why the shop didnt treat him while he was there but then again the " kids" that work there are just about as thick as pets at home

I wondered that too ?

I need to go into the city centre on Saturday so I shall go and have a look at the petshop- its off parliament st isnt it? I think I've been in before ages ago.

BTW, Ive been told its often better to complain to the council about pet shops not treating their animals well, as they are they ones who license them. they are usually quite prompt at going out also.

I used to love going in that petshop when I was a kid, if it's the one on Trinity Walk/Kings Walk (can never remember which is which). Obviously now I know better but the condition of Brian was disgraceful. As Mandy says, the council are better than anything as they can stop them selling animals.

yeah its on Trinity walk about halfway down, theres only teenagers running the place more or less

and believe it or not we've just been in P@H and the girl in there was informing this couple that female g-pigs are really territorial...wtf :o
we just stood there like "what the hell is she on about"
there was a couple also buying 2 rabbits so mum said really loud " I wouldnt pay these prices for rabbits when theres heaps need rehoming at various rescues"
