PAH temporarily stop GP sales due to outbreak

I was in PaH last week and I stopped to coo at the babies and I was worried about one but... I'd gotten caught out by a death nap..... again. 🫥

Also I didn't know what cervical lymphadentitis was so did a google image search and was presented with a guinea pig that looked a lot like Minerva and almost had a heart attack. ^^; (LINK)

The time frame unfortunately seems more like they culled, sanitised and replaced the mills breeding stock, which is an awful shame. Laziness and money over the lives of the animals.. but fingers crossed I'm wrong.
It's a blood industry it seems 🙁

Oh this is sad. I actually popped into PAH yesterday, first time for ages , and went to see the guinea pig cages but was surprised to find the empty. Now I know why :(

please can anyone put my mind at ease! i went in sunday and saw lots of piggies with signs on the cage ‘we are new and settling in, not currently for adoption’ etc, is there anyway i could have bought it home and passed on to my pigs?! this is shocking and soso sad😢

I think their hygiene is pretty good. Normal hand washing should prevent transmission from a store as their bedding is behind glass. Customers wouldn't make contact with their piggies or their bowls, blankets, hides, etc. Perhaps keep your footwear in an entrance area rather than wearing shoes indoors. I think you should be safe from transmission.

The PAH website says that they are:

"Creating a better world for pets and the people who love them"

Seems a shame that they don't have better control over the breeding mills then.
They possibly overstock to breed certain looks 🙁

It breaks my heart that people are still happy to support this vile trade. Until I read the forum I had no idea that people still bought animals from these places, but then until covid I had hoped that people no longer bought from puppy farms. For many years I have not even bought anything or even entered anywhere that sold animals this way, I suppose that is why I was in blissful ignorance as to the extent it was still going on.
I have once in the past bought a pair of guineas who I discovered later were destined for the pet trade, despite my best care neither made it past five years old, but far worse than that was because of their upbringing they were in a state of total terror when I first had them. The poor things had never been handled and were terrified of everything, it made me realise how many animals in this state of fear finished up in pet homes as children's pets.
I'm trying not to think of how the unwanted animals may have been "disposed of".

Literally only took them off sale for 24hrs to start with from the information I've got, so you're probably right 😩
They literally mean nothing to them except pound signs.

Not sure if they're still off sale...

The info I saw said they were due to be back on sale from the 17th.. not sure how true that is though 😔

The 3rd of Never would be better
Absolutely!

I had someone ring to ask if we had any guinea pigs available. Said they’d wanted new ones really but as PAH aren’t selling any at mo, she would ‘consider’ second hand ones! It was like ours were second best! I did try to educate her but it was falling on deaf ears!

Some people only hear what they want to hear.
