Maybe a silly question, but people say to pair 2 boars you either need an adult or a young baby. If your pig gets on really well with a pig that is say 6 months old, is that a big no no or is that ok? Because surely the younger pig is mid teen stage & the big hormones would be out - so if they got along would this not be better than a baby baby whose personality hasn't really shown itself yet?!

When I am pairing a pig under 10 months I tend to pick an older male (15 mths+) as he would have been through the hormonal months already and the chances of a fall out later are less.

The hormonal period can last from 3-15 months, with 6-10 months being the most tricky in terms of dominance issues as the hormones surges are at their strongest then.

The biggest factor is that the pigs like each other and have developed a close bond. This can happen for any pairing no matter the ages involved and has more bearing on the success rate than any other consideration.

Ok that makes Sense! So it can work as long as the personalities get on? My boy is almost 2 & him & his brother were never particularly hormonal so I've been a bit spoilt!

Thanks ;)
